Covey (knee) participated in the Eagles' offseason practice Thursday, per Glenn Erby of USA Today.
Covey had knee surgery in the offseason but appears to have recovered well given his ability to participate in the practice session. The 27-year-old is slated to work as Philadelphia's primary punt/kick return in 2024 and should also see some limited work as a receiver in the team's passing game.
Had knee surgery

Covey "had his left knee scoped a few weeks back," Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The punt returner "said it's probably why he had a nagging quad issue during the season," per McLane. As a receiver, Covey caught four balls for 42 yards and no touchdowns in 2023. In 17 games in 2022 with the Eagles, Covey did not record a catch.
Almost exclusively on special teams
Published: 2024-01-19
Covey appeared in 16 regular-season games but was almost exclusively used as a kick and punt returner, catching just four passes for 42 yards.
Covey played all 17 games in 2022 without being targeted a single time, so his six targets in 2023 represent a step forward. Five of those targets came in Week 18, with the Eagles resting starters for part of the game, so there's little reason to believe Covey is a threat for even double-digit receptions next season.
Stuck in special-teams role

Covey played all three of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 42-19 loss to the 49ers.
Covey's standing as the team's top punt returner rather than his contributions as a receiver have enabled him to be active for all 12 of the Eagles' games this season. The Utah product has yet to draw a target over 39 career snaps on offense through 29 games over his first two seasons in the league.
Good to go Sunday

Covey (concussion) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams.
Covey left Philadelphia's Week 4 win over Washington late with a head injury, but he's since cleared concussion protocol and has no injury designation this coming Sunday. The Utah product is the Eagles' main punt returner, tallying 151 return yards on nine chances this season.
Gets questionable tag for Week 5
Published: 2023-10-06
Covey (concussion) is listed as questionable to play against the Rams on Sunday, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Covey entered concussion protocol Monday after suffering a head injury late in Sunday's win over Washington. He didn't practice Wednesday but promisingly followed a limited session Thursday with a full practice Friday. That seems to give Covey a good chance of playing Sunday -- if he's able to do so, he'll likely continue to feature as the Eagles' primary punt returner.
Manages limited practice Thursday

Covey (concussion) was a limited participant at practice Thursday.
Covey missed practice entirely Wednesday, so his limited participation Thursday represents a positive development. He still probably needs to practice fully Friday to avoid an injury designation headed into the weekend, though.
Misses practice Wednesday

Covey (concussion) was a non-participant at the Eagles' practice Wednesday.
Covey's absence comes as no surprise considering he entered concussion protocols Monday. The return-specialist faces an uphill battle to be able to play Sunday against the Rams.
Enters protocols

Covey suffered a head injury late in Sunday's win over the Commanders and has entered the league's concussion protocols, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Covey will need to clear the league's five-step process to be able to suit up Week 5 against the Rams, which will likely be a tall task for the Utah product. Assuming he is unable to play, Boston Scott and Olamide Zaccheaus will be candidates to handle return duties in Week 5.
