The Chargers activated Woods (illness) off the reserve/non-football illness list Tuesday.

Woods has been out due to an illness since Week 4 but is now officially eligible to make his return. The 2022 third-round pick can contribute on defense and special teams, and he compiled five tackles (three solo) in his three games played earlier this season.

The Chargers designated Woods (illness) to return from the reserve/non-football illness list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

This opens the 21-day practice window for Woods, who has missed the last six games with an unspecified medical condition. It sounds like he's been cleared to return to football activities and is eligible to be activated at any time in the next three weeks.

Woods (illness) is said to be dealing with a medical condition, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

The Chargers are now providing some clarity on Woods' status after he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list Saturday. While there is no timetable on his return, the 23-year-old will miss at least the next four games before he will be eligible to return.

The Chargers placed Woods (undisclosed) on the reserve/non-football illness list Saturday, Daniel reports.

It's unclear what ailment Woods has, but he did not participate in Friday's practice session. He's played 73 snaps in three contests -- 57 on defense -- and has five tackles in that span. Woods will now have to miss at least four games and will be eligible to return in Week 9 against the Jets on Nov. 6.

Won't play Sunday

Woods (undisclosed) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Woods didn't practice Friday and has since been ruled out Sunday, but it's unclear what the second-year player's injury is at the moment. With Derwin James (hamstring) listed as doubtful and Alohi Gilman (heel) listed as questionable, Raheem Layne should see a massive uptick in work, as he's the only safety on the 53-man roster without an injury designation.
