Turns in full practice

Fields (abdomen) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Fields has been inactive for the Steelers' last two games due to an abdominal injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin said earlier this week that he expects the quarterback to be ready to go for Saturday's regular-season finale versus the Bengals. With a full practice under his belt to begin Week 18 prep, Fields looks like he'll be ready to reprise his usual duties as the top backup to Russell Wilson. Before Fields missed time with the abdominal injury, the Steelers had been sprinkling him into the weekly game plans to take advantage of his rushing ability. Fields could have the opportunity to play more extensively Saturday if the Steelers elect to rest Wilson, which could become a consideration if the Ravens beat the Browns earlier in the day to clinch the AFC North crown and a home game in the wild-card round of the playoffs. For his part, Tomlin said earlier in the week that he's not yet in the mentality of resting players for the finale, but that could change closer to Saturday's 8 p.m. ET kickoff, when the result of the Ravens-Browns game will be known.

LIkely to be active for Week 18

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that Fields (abdomen) is expected to be active for Saturday's contest against Cincinnati, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.

Fields was inactive for each of Pittsburgh's previous two games, though he was deemed the team's emergency third quarterback Christmas Day versus the Chiefs. It appears the fourth-year QB will be able to suit up Saturday, and he'd presumably work as the team's backup to Russell Wilson. However, there's a possibility Fields could log more than his usual amount of work if Pittsburgh decides to sit or limit its starters. The Steelers play the late game Saturday, and they'll know whether they have a shot of winning the AFC North and moving up to the No. 3 playoff seed depending on the outcome of the early Saturday contest between Baltimore and Cleveland.

Emergency third QB on Wednesday

Fields (abdomen) is listed as the Steelers' inactive third quarterback for Wednesday's game against the Chiefs, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

With Fields, who had been listed as questionable for the contest, in line to be the team's emergency third QB, Kyle Allen is slated to serve as Pittsburgh's No. 2 signal caller behind Russell Wilson on Wednesday. Fields' next chance to step back in as Wilson's top backup will arrive in Week 18 versus the Bengals.

Not expected to suit up Wednesday

Fields (abdomen) is unlikely to play in Wednesday's Week 17 game against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Fields was able to log a limited practice session Tuesday, but it appears the backup QB will miss a second straight contest. If that is indeed the case, Kyle Allen would be in line to serve as the Steelers' No. 2 signal-caller behind Russell Wilson. Rapoport notes that Fields could serve as Pittsburgh's emergency third quarterback Wednesday and might be able to return to action next Sunday against Cincinnati.

Officially questionable for Week 17

Fields (abdomen) is questionable to suit up against the Chiefs on Wednesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Fields missed last Sunday's matchup against Baltimore due to an injury to his abdomen, but he could return to face Kansas City on Wednesday after logging a limited practice session Tuesday. If he can suit up, Fields will back up Russell Wilson at quarterback while potentially handling a few snaps on designed running plays. If Fields is unable to play, however, Kyle Allen is in like to work as Pittsburgh's No. 2 QB.

Ruled out for Week 16

Fields (abdomen) did not practice Thursday and is ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Fields hasn't yet practiced in any capacity since sustaining an abdomen injury during Pittsburgh's loss to the Eagles in Week 15. He picked up the injury on an eight-yard rush in the second quarter of the Steelers' loss. Until Fields is cleared to retake the field, Kyle Allen handle backup quarterback duties behind Russell Wilson.

Logs DNP on Tuesday

Fields (abdomen) did not participate in Tuesday's walkthrough session, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.

Fields suffered an abdominal injury on an eight-yard rush in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Eagles. He'll have two more chances this week to return to practice ahead of Saturday's AFC North showdown against the Ravens. If Fields is not cleared for that game, Kyle Allen would be the next man up to serve as the Steelers' backup quarterback behind Russell Wilson.

Out for remainder of Week 15

Fields (abdomen) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Eagles, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Fields was hurt on his only snap of the game -- a second-quarter eight-yard carry on which Reed Blankenship was penalized for unnecessary roughness. Fields' absence means that Pittsburgh will be unable to deploy the package that features Fields as a runner, which the team has been using a few times per game. Russell Wilson remains the Steelers' No. 1 quarterback.

Questionable to return

Fields is questionable to return to Sunday's matchup versus the Eagles with an abdominal injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Fields had carried the ball once for eight yards prior to suffering an injury during the third quarter of Sunday's matchup. If he ends up being unable to return, the team will have to turn to the emergency quarterback Kyle Allen should Russell Wilson get hurt.
