Lucrative extension with Philly

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-04-25

Brown (knee) signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Rumors emerged early in the offseason that Brown was on his way out of Philadelphia after a disappointing close to the 2023 campaign. He did his best to shut the speculation down, and this extension should squash any lingering doubt as to his future with the Eagles. Brown has had two standout seasons with the team, topping 1,450 in each year with 18 total touchdowns.

Wants to stay in Philly

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-02-23

Brown (knee) called into Sports Radio 94WIP on Friday to shut down trade rumors and say that he wants to stay with the Eagles.

Brown took matters into his own hands after hearing trade rumors from Philadelphia media on the heels of the Eagles' late-season meltdown. He was clear about not wanting to be traded and not having any issues with QB Jalen Hurts, and Brown also mentioned feeling like the team's coaches were unfairly blamed for a disappointing 2023. All the same, Philadelphia will have new coordinators on both sides of the ball in 2024, having hired Kellen Moore for the offense and Vic Fangio for the defense. Assuming he's right about the trade rumors being bogus, Brown will remain a central figure in the offense for the second season of his four-year, $100 million extension. The knee injury that kept him out of a wild-card loss to Tampa Bay isn't expected to impact his preparations for 2024, and Brown figures to be taken late in the first round or early in the second round of most fantasy drafts, just as he was last summer.

Standout season ends on sour note

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-17

Brown (knee) finished the 2023 season with 106 catches on 158 targets for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns. He played in all 17 regular-season games but missed the 32-9 wild-card round loss to the Buccaneers due to a knee injury.

Brown injured his knee in Week 18 against the Giants, and while the injury kept him out of the playoff defeat, it isn't expected to impact his availability for the start of the 2024 season. The star wide receiver blew by his 2022 career high of 88 catches in 2023, though he finished with 40 fewer receiving yards and four fewer touchdowns compared to the previous season. Brown had a streak of six consecutive games with at least 127 yards starting in Week 3, which helped him post the fifth-highest receiving yardage total in the NFL. He'll turn 27 years old in June and projects to remain among the top performers at his position in 2024.

Confirmed out for Monday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-13

Head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Saturday Brown will not play in Monday's playoff matchup against the Buccaneers, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.

Sirianni suggested the Eagles would attempt to get by without Brown by using a committee of targets including DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Julio Jones, Olamide Zaccheaus and Quez Watkins, but the initial two project to see the biggest increase in workload. With potentially inclement weather also impacting the playoff matchup in Tampa Bay, D'Andre Swift and the totality of the Eagles rushing attack figures to also see heavy usage.

Not expected to play Monday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-13

Brown (knee) is not expected to play Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

The Eagles haven't officially ruled out Brown, but multiple reports suggest the Pro Bowl wideout will be unavailable to play in the wild-card matchup against the Buccaneers come Monday. Once he's inevitably ruled out, expect the likes of DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert to be the team's primary focus from a passing perspective, with Julio Jones, Olamide Zaccheaus and Quez Watkins all factoring in as ancillary pieces.

Sitting out again Friday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-12

Brown (knee) was absent from Friday's practice, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.

Brown thus hasn't logged any on-field work since injuring his knee during the Eagles' Week 18 loss at the Giants, giving him one more chance to do so before the team potentially makes a ruling on his availability for Monday's wild-card game in Tampa Bay. He likely will do everything in his power to suit up in Philadelphia's postseason opener, but if Brown is limited or out, Julio Jones, Quez Watkins and Olamide Zaccheaus would be the candidates to get WR reps alongside DeVonta Smith.

Not practicing Thursday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-11

Brown (knee) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Since Brown left this past Sunday's loss at the Giants due to a knee injury, there hasn't been much intel regarding his health, other than a report from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network afterward in which Brown's issue wasn't believed to be a serious one. With three days to rest up before the Eagles' first session ahead of Monday's wild-card game in Tampa Bay, Brown focused on rehab versus on-field work Thursday, but he'll have two more chances to mix into drills and put himself on a path to play.

Knee injury likely minor

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-07

The knee injury Brown suffered in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Giants isn't believed to be serious, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Brown exited in the first half of the regular-season finale but was the first player greeting players in the locker room after the game. Jalen Hurts (finger) also left in the first half, and while both players are more likely than not to be available for the wild-card round in Tampa Bay, Philadelphia's injury report heading into the playoffs will be worth monitoring to confirm their availability.

Not returning Sunday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-07

Brown (knee) won't return to Sunday's contest at the Giants, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.

Brown stayed on the turf for a spell after his first catch of the game near the end of the first quarter. Eagles trainers tended to him before he limped to the sideline and then went to the locker room. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network later reported that Brown's ACL seems to be intact, but further testing will determine the extent of the injury. For the time being, Brown's status for the wild-card round is up in the air, as is that of fellow wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle), who's inactive Week 18.
