Sitting Thursday
Okwuegbunam (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Patriots.
Okwuegbunam was traded to Philadelphia from the Broncos in late August and he'll now sit for the second straight contest to open the 2023 campaign. It's possible that with one more week of practice under his belt, the tight end makes his Eagles debut in Week 3 versus the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.

Not taking the field
Okwuegbunam (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Patriots.
Okwuegbunam will sit out the season opener, as the Eagles will opt to go with Grant Calcaterra and Jack Stoll behind the starter, Dallas Goedert at tight end.
Dealt to Philly
The Broncos traded Okwuegbunam to the Eagles on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
After reporters Tuesday morning said the tight end would be waived, the Broncos ultimately were able to get a late-round 2025 pick swap out of it instead. Okwuegbunam could share TE snaps with Jack Stoll if starter Dallas Goedert misses any time for the Eagles this year.
Being waived by Broncos
The Broncos are in line to waive Okwuegbunam, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Okwuegbunam caught seven of eight targets for 109 yards and a TD in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams, but the Broncos are moving on from the 2020 fourth-rounder ahead of Week 1. With Okwuegbunam no longer in the mix, the team's tight end corps is currently led by Adam Trautman, Greg Dulcich and Chris Manhertz.
Stands out at critical time
Okwuegbunam brought in seven of eight targets for 109 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' 41-0 preseason win over the Rams on Saturday night.
Facing the prospect of playing his last game in a Broncos uniform, Okwuegbunam was able to make a convincing case for retaining a roster spot with team-high reception, receiving yardage and target totals. Okwuegbunam got the start and immediately made an impact, making 17- and eight-yard grabs on the opening drive and consistently connecting with Jarrett Stidham throughout the first half, including on an eight-yard touchdown reception late in the first quarter. Whether Okwuegbunam did enough to lock down a reserve tight end role will soon be evident, given final cuts must be made by Tuesday afternoon.
On roster bubble
Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams figures to be a big night for Okwuegbunam, as special teams coach Ben Kotwica hinted he is on the roster bubble, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
The Broncos are seemingly set at tight end with Adam Trautman and Greg Dulcich, so Okwuegbunam's route to the the 53-man roster appears to be via special teams. He has apparently logged some good practices over the past week, so his final test may be in Saturday's exhibition game.
Finishes disappointing third season
Okwuegbunam caught 10 of 18 targets for 95 yards and one touchdown while playing eight games in the 2022 season.
Okwuegbunam entered the 2022 campaign with high expectations following the departure of Noah Fant and arrival of quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason. However, the veteran tight end was a complete afterthought in the Broncos' struggling passing attack throughout the season, as he appeared in only eight games. Okwuegbunam eventually ceded No. 1 tight end duties to rookie Greg Dulcich (hamstring), who became a reliable option for Wilson during stretches of the season. Looking ahead to next year, Dulcich figures to lead Denver's tight end corps, but the 24-year-old Okwuegbunam may have a chance to prove himself. A new coaching staff should offer him a fresh start with the chance to earn more playing time in 2023. Okwuegbunam is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is set to become a free agent in 2024.
Finds end zone in loss
Okwuegbunam caught three of six targets for 45 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs.
Okwuegbunam stepped into a 53 percent offensive snap share in the contest with rookie Greg Dulcich (hamstring) on injured reserve. Sunday marked only the seventh game the veteran tight end has appeared in this season, and his snap percentage was his highest since Week 2. Additionally, Okwuegbunam's touchdown was his first trip to the end zone of the 2022 campaign. After entering the season as a candidate to take a major step forward, the season has been one to forget for the 24-year-old. Okwuegbunam should enter a Week 18 matchup with the Chargers looking to end the year on a high note as Denver's de facto No. 1 tight end.
