Scores second touchdown of 2024
Van Ginkel recorded one tackle and an interception returned for a touchdown in Sunday's 23-17 win against the Jets.
Van Ginkel dropped into coverage on a third down late in the first quarter, corralled a pass intended for Garrett Wilson with one hand and returned it 63 yards to the house to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead. It was his second pick-six of the year and the fourth touchdown of his career.

Stats not availableLeads Minnesota in tackles Sunday
Van Ginkel recorded six total tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sack, during Sunday's 34-7 win over the Texans.
Van Ginkel played a major role in the Vikings' statement performance in Week 3, holding a high-powered Texans offense to just seven points. He was one of three Vikings to sack C.J. Stroud during Sunday's contest, while also leading the team in total tackles. Van Ginkel, a first-year Viking, appears to be fitting into defensive coordinator Brian Flores' scheme well through his first three games, and he's expected to continue wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks as the season progresses.
Full practice participant Thursday
Van Ginkel (foot) practiced in full Thursday.
Van Ginkel opened the week as a limited practice participant Wednesday, but he was able to go through drills without restrictions Thursday. Barring any setbacks, he should be good to go for Sunday's game against the Texans. The 2019 fifth-round pick has tallied eight tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, and a pick-six over the first two games of the regular season.
Limited Wednesday
Van Ginkel (foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Van Ginkel played through his foot issue in the Vikings' Week 2 win over the 49ers, so his limited participation Wednesday is likely precautionary. However, if the Wisconsin product's injury is too much to overcome in Week 3, expect Dallas Turner (knee) and Pat Jones to see increased snaps on Minnesota's first-team defense.
No designation for Sunday
Van Ginkel (foot) doesn't carry an injury designation and will play Sunday against the 49ers.
Van Ginkel missed practice Wednesday but was upgraded to limited Thursday and cleared to play Friday. In Minnesota's Week 1 throttling of the Giants, the veteran edge player recorded four tackles (two solo), one sack and a pick-six interception.
Upgraded to limited Thursday
Van Ginkel (foot) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice session.
Van Ginkel did not participate in Wednesday's practice, but he was able to see the field in a restricted capacity Thursday. His participation in Friday's practice will give a better sense on his availability for the Vikings' Week 2 showdown against the 49ers on Sunday. Van Ginkel accrued four tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 1 victory over the Giants.
Dealing with foot injury
Van Ginkel (foot) didn't practice Wednesday.
Van Ginkel was all over the field during his Vikings debut in Week 1, but it now appears he could be in jeopardy of missing time due to a foot injury. The Wisconsin product's practice participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of whether Van Ginkel will be able to suit up in Week 2. If he remains hindered by this foot issue throughout the week, expect 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner to see increased work with the Vikings' first-team defense.
Snags pick-six
Van Ginkel logged four tackles (two solo), with a sack, and returned an interception for a touchdown during Minnesota's 28-6 win over the Giants on Sunday.
Van Ginkel was dominant in his debut with Vikings as he scored his third career touchdown. The 29-year-old has now recorded an interception in three straight seasons, and will look to build off this strong performance next week versus the 49ers.
Returns to practice
Van Ginkel (foot) participated in 11-on-11 practice Saturday for the first time during training camp, Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated reports.
Van Ginkel sustained a foot injury during the Dolphins' regular-season finale last season that held him out of the team's playoff loss to the Chiefs. It looks like he's on pace to be ready for the start of the regular season. He signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Vikings after the season and is expected to serve as one of the team's top edge rushers.
