Passes physical

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-08-07

Campbell (undisclosed) has passed his physical and been removed from the Falcons' active/non-football injury list, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

It remains unclear what injury Campbell was dealing with, but it was never considered a long term issue. He signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Falcons in March after a three-year stint with the Ravens. The soon-to-be 16 year veteran is expected to start at defensive end to start the season assuming he avoids any setbacks.

Waiting on injury update

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-07-28

Head coach Arthur Smith noted Thursday that the Falcons will have an update on the injury status of Campbell (undisclosed) in "at least 10 days," Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Campbell was placed on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday. Smith said Wednesday that the injury, while unclear, is "nothing we're concerned about long term." Campbell signed a one-year, $7 million contract with Atlanta in March after spending the last three seasons with Baltimore. Entering his 14th year in the NFL, Campbell will be an integral piece to a Falcons defense that registered the sixth-most yards per game allowed (362.1) last season.

Nursing minor injury

Head coach Arthur Smith told reporters Wednesday that Campbell's (undisclosed) injury is "nothing we're concerned about long term," Scott Bair of the Falcons' official site reports.

After landing on the NFI list yesterday, Campbell still does not have an injury designation or timetable, but Smith doesn't seem worried about his veteran defensive lineman. The three-time All-Pro will be 37 by Atlanta's first game, so it makes sense why the team is giving him the time he needs to recover. Campbell signed with the Falcons this offseason on a one-year deal, hoping to help a defensive line that gave up 4.4 yards per carry to opposing running backs last season.

Lands on NFI list

Campell (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday, Scott Bair of the Falcons' official site reports.

Campbell's injury is unclear, but it's considered minor, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Once healthy, the veteran figures to be an integral piece of the interior of Atlanta's defensive line this season.

Linking up with Altanta

Campbell agreed Wednesday with the Falcons on a one-year contract, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Campbell's arrival will help boost Atlanta's revamped defense, as he joins other free-agency additions Jesse Bates, David Onyemata and Kaden Elliss. The 36-year-old veteran notched 5.5 sacks across 14 games with the Ravens in 2022, a total that would have ranked second on the Falcons behind Grady Jarrett. Now the NFL's oldest defensive lineman at 36 years old, Campbell's experience should help him remain productive even if he plays more of a rotational role in 2023.

Let go by Baltimore

The Ravens released Campbell on Monday.

Campbell signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal ahead of the 2022 campaign and appeared in 14 games, totaling 36 tackles, two forced fumbles and 5.5 sacks -- his most since 2019. His release will clear some cap space for Baltimore and allow the veteran to find a new deal following his resurgent season. The 2008 second-round pick has played for three different teams (the Cardinals, Jaguars and Ravens) across 15 seasons and has recorded at least five sacks in 13 of those campaigns.

Should play Sunday

Campbell (knee) is active Sunday against the Bengals.

Campbell hasn't played since Week 15, and he was only able to log a practice Thursday this week. However, despite the Ravens resting multiple starters, Campbell is expected to play.

Listed as questionable for Sunday

Campbell (knee) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Bengals.

Campbell has missed back-to-back games due to a knee injury and is in jeopardy of missing a third straight contest. After not practicing Wednesday, the veteran pass rusher logged a full session Thursday but was back to a non-participant Friday, so his availability will likely be a true game-time decision Sunday.

Inactive Sunday

Campbell (knee) is inactive for Sunday's night's game against the Steelers, Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site reports.

Campbell, who returned to a limited practiced Friday, approached the contest listed as questionable, but after going through a full pregame workout he'll sit this one out. The defensive end -- who last suited up in Week 15 -- will target a potential return to action next weekend against the Bengals.
