Starting season on PUP list

The Chiefs placed Omenihu (knee) on reserve/PUP Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Omenihu missed all of training camp as he continues his rehab from a torn ACL suffered in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens last postseason. His placement on PUP knocks Omenihu out for at least the first four games of the season. George Karlaftis and Chris Jones will key Kansas City's pass rush while Omenihu gets healthy.

The Chiefs placed Omenihu (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday.

Omenihu is recovering from February knee surgery undergone to address a torn ACL. The rotational edge rusher suffered the injury during Kansas City's AFC Championship Game win over the Ravens, and the expectation is that he'll miss at least the early portion of the 2024 regular season.

Undergoes knee surgery

Omenihu (knee) underwent successful surgery to repair his torn ACL on Tuesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Omenihu suffered the ACL tear in the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game win over the Ravens and obviously missed the Super Bowl versus his former San Francisco teammates. His surgery will now be followed up by a lengthy recovery, leaving his Week 1 status in doubt less than seven months from now. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Omenihu start the 2024 campaign on the reserve/PUP list.

The Chiefs placed Omenihu (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Omenihu will officially head to injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair his torn ACL on Tuesday. With the 2019 fifth-round pick out, Felix Anudike-Uzomah should see increased playing time versus the 49ers in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Omenihu is set to undergo surgery to repair his torn ACL on Tuesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Omenihu tore his ACL during Kansas City's AFC Championship win over the Ravens two weeks ago and will now get surgery to repair it. The 2019 fifth-round pick will shift his focus to getting ready for next season while Felix Anudike-Uzomah should see increased playing time in the Super Bowl in Omenihu's absence.

Tending to torn ACL

Omenihu sustained a ruptured ACL during Sunday's win at Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.

Omenihu was forced out of Sunday's contest during the second quarter, and while there was some optimism from the Chiefs ahead of his MRI on Monday, his injury was unfortunately a severe one. Rookie first-rounder Felix Anudike-Uzomah figures to see an expanded role at defensive end in the Super Bowl in the absence of Omenihu, who will now have to begin to work to recover for next season.

Omenihu, who exited Sunday's AFC Championship Game victory over the Ravens with a knee injury, will have an MRI on Monday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Palmer notes that the Chiefs are optimistic about the issue. Omenihu sustained the knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game and finished the contest with one sack.

Omenihu (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Ravens.

Omenihu went to the locker room in the second quarter, and he will be sidelined for the remainder of Sunday's contest. Malik Herring and Jordan Smith are candidates to see more snaps as depth edge rushers behind starters Mike Danna and George Karlaftis.
