Catches 11 passes in 12 games

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-23

Turner caught 11 of 15 targets for 120 yards in 12 games during the 2023 season.

There was some spring/summer chatter about Turner potentially supplanting Logan Thomas as Washington's top tight end, but it never came to fruition even after the second-year pro caught seven passes over the first three weeks of the season. Turner caught just four balls the rest of the year and was even a healthy scratch at times, so he'll need to compete for a job in 2024 even if Thomas is released to help clear cap space.

Healthy scratch

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-31

Turner (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Sunday's tilt against the 49ers.

Turner played just four offensive snaps (seven percent) in Week 16, and it looks like the Commanders feel comfortable with their tight end depth this weke. As a result, his only remaining chance to play again this season will come in Week 18 versus the Cowboys.

Inactive Sunday

Turner (coach's decision) will not play in Sunday's matchup with the Rams.

Turner's absence will be his third missed game of the season. With Logan Thomas and John Bates healthy, the Commanders will opt to add depth at a different position.

Distant third on TE depth chart

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-07

Turner played seven of the Commanders' 55 snaps on offense and hauled in his lone target for a two-yard reception in Sunday's 45-15 loss to the Dolphins.

While the second-year player profiles as a strong pass catcher and has run routes on 60.3 percent of his offensive snaps this season, he's not seeing enough playing time behind fellow tight ends Logan Thomas and John Bates to make much of a splash in the box score. Through his 11 appearances this season, Turner has yet to find the end zone and has recorded more than one reception on just two occasions.

Will suit up Sunday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-11-19

Turner is active for Sunday's Week 11 clash with the Giants.

Turner was a healthy scratch both Week 8 and Week 10 but will be available to face New York on Sunday. The tight end had four catches on seven targets for 35 yards Week 2 versus Buffalo but has compiled only four catches for 47 yards combined across the other seven contests during which he has been active. Turner's role will likely remain limited as long as top TE Logan Thomas is healthy.

Won't play Week 8

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-10-29

Turner (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Eagles.

Turner played in the first seven games of the season and has accrued eight catches on 12 targets for 82 yards while also contributing on special teams. The Commanders will operate with two tight ends -- Logan Thomas and John Bates -- for Week 8.

Catches lone target

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-10-09

Turner caught his lone target for nine yards in Thursday's 40-20 loss in Chicago.

Logan Thomas put up 9-77-1 on a team-high 11 targets -- a reminder that Turner could offer some fantasy value if his teammate misses time. Turner was targeted seven times in the one game Thomas sat out, and the Commanders surprisingly rank among the league leaders in cumulative TE targets (and target share) despite having a strong WR group and a weak TE unit on paper.

Non-factor in loss

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-10-04

Turner failed to record a single target in Sunday's 34-13 overtime loss to the Eagles.

After leading the Commanders in targets in Week 3, Turner's involvement in the offense plummeted against the Eagles on Sunday. The 23-year-old tight end failed to record a reception for the first time this season while playing on just six offensive snaps in the contest. Turner's drop in snap share in Week 4 was a result of Logan Thomas' return from a concussion, as Thomas reestablished himself as the No. 1 tight end. Operating in a backup role behind both Thomas and John Bates, Turner should remain off the fantasy radar in a Week 5 matchup with the Bengals.

Leads team in targets

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-09-25

Turner caught four of seven targets for 35 yards in a 37-3 loss to Buffalo on Sunday.

Turner rekindled his preseason connection with Sam Howell, who had an all-time-bad stat line that included four interceptions and nine sacks. Turner and John Bates played 57 percent of snaps apiece with Logan Thomas (concussion) inactive for the first time this year. It'll be hard to count on any of them Week 4 at Philadelphia, regardless of Thomas' progressions through the concussion protocol.
