Goes off in season opener

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-09-08

Kupp hauled in 14 of his game-high 21 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions. He added two carries for 10 yards.

Kupp popped off with a monster receiving line to begin the fantasy season after beginning last year on the PUP list due to injury. Unfortunately for the Rams, his massive target total came at the expense of fellow star wideout Puka Nacua (knee), who may have suffered a serious injury of his own in Sunday's nationally televised loss to Detroit. Kupp was already poised to bounce back following injury-plagued campaigns in 2022 and 2023, but he may be asked to do even more than expected if Nacua is forced to miss time after being carted off of the field Sunday. Kupp and the Rams will look to shake off this competitive loss in advance of next Sunday's tilt against Arizona.

Ready for Week 1

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-08-24

Kupp (coach's decision) was held out of all the Rams' preseason contests this season.

Head coach Sean McVay's gameplan to rest his key players and hide his offensive gameplan allowed Kupp to get some extra rest after two separate lower-body injuries caused the superstar to miss 12 games over the last two years. 2023 Rookie of the Year Puka Nacua (knee) emerged in the veteran's absence, and both players are lined up to start a regular season across from each other for the first time. McVay mentioned earlier in the offseason that Kupp was still limited by the aforementioned leg injuries last season when he provided a 7/59/5 receiving line across 12 games. The 31-year-old is only two years removed from his memorable Super Bowl MVP campaign, so a bounce back could be in store for Kupp's suitors if McVay's words hold water this year.

Won't play in preseason game

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-08-16

The Rams plan to rest Kupp and other key players for Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.

The Rams held nearly half their roster out of the preseason opener against Dallas, including a lot of their more highly regarded backups, and coach Sean McVay said the list of rested players could be even longer for the team's second exhibition. Kupp has been healthy throughout spring practices and training camp, unlike last year when he had to rehab from a major ankle injury and then dealt with a hamstring pull for much of the summer and September.

Back at full strength

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-06-06

Coach Sean McVay suggested Tuesday that Kupp was never truly healthy last season but is now back at full strength, Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire reports.

McVay compared Kupp's 2023 to QB Matthew Stafford's 2022, with the implication being that both players not only missed games but also played through injuries when they were active. Kupp has told reporters he's 100 percent healthy for the offseason program, unlike in recent years at the same juncture. Last year, he was coming back from season-ending ankle surgery in 2022 and then ended up suffering a summer hamstring injury that cost him the first four games of 2023. Kupp didn't lose any games to injuries thereafter, but he did make an early exit from the team's Week 11 contest and ultimately averaged his least receiving yards per game (61.4) since his rookie year. While a rebound could be coming, Kupp is on the cusp of his 31st birthday and now has to share an offense with 2023 rookie sensation Puka Nacua. It's thus unclear if Kupp will regain his peak form and target volume, though just one of those two things happening would probably be enough to make him a good fantasy pick.

Quiet in playoff loss

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-14

Kupp caught five of nine targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 24-23 wild-card round loss to the Lions.

Kupp made a key six-yard catch to convert a fourth-and-5 in the second quarter, which was immediately followed by a 38-yard Tutu Atwell touchdown catch on the next play. Outside of that contribution, Kupp was surprisingly quiet in the playoff exit while Puka Nacua racked up 181 yards and a touchdown. Kupp will be 31 years old next season and looks like he's ready to cede the No. 1 receiver role to Nacua in 2024, but the NFL's leading receiver in 2021 should still have plenty of fantasy utility considering Kupp posted four 100-yard performances in 12 regular-season games en route to 59 catches for 737 yards and five touchdowns.

Officially inactive for Week 18

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-07

Kupp (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Head coach Sean McVay had already revealed at the beginning of Week 18 prep that Kupp would be held out for rest purposes in the regular-season finale, but the Rams still opted to list the receiver as doubtful on their final injury report. As anticipated, Kupp is inactive for the contest, leaving Puka Nacua, Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek, Tyler Johnson and Austin Trammell as the team's available receivers for Sunday's game. Kupp will return to action in the wild-card round, when the Rams play a road game against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

Not playing in Week 18

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-03

Coach Sean McVay said Kupp won't play Sunday at San Francisco, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.

Along with Kupp, quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Kyren Williams are among the healthy skill-position players for the Rams that won't see action Week 18. Kupp thus will finish his seventh season as a pro with 59 catches (on 95 targets) for 737 yards and five touchdowns in 12 contests. His next game action will occur in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Scores TD on otherwise quiet day

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-31

Kupp caught four of six targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Giants.

Kupp's five-yard touchdown catch with 1:44 remaining in the first half gave the Rams a 14-7 lead, and Los Angeles stayed ahead the rest of the way while turning away a two-point conversion attempt and field-goal attempt in the final 3:27. His fifth touchdown of the season helped salvage an otherwise quiet game from Kupp, who was held to fewer than 30 yards for the fifth time in 2023 while Puka Nacua racked up a team-high 118 receiving yards. Nacua's emergence has lowered Kupp's floor, but both wideouts have generally remained productive heading into a Week 18 matchup with the 49ers. San Francisco has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC, while LA could clinch a playoff berth if things break right during the rest of Week 17.

Inefficient with 12 targets

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-21

Kupp brought in six of 12 targets for 52 yards and rushed once for minus-3 yards in the Rams' 30-22 win over the Saints on Thursday night.

Kupp led the Rams in targets and tied for second in receptions on a night when Matthew Stafford connected with only four targets overall. The veteran was more inefficient than usual with his opportunities, and his night was particularly a disappointment in light of the fact Kupp was coming off back-to-back 100-yard performances. Nevertheless, the 2017 third-round pick now has at least six grabs in four straight games going into a Week 17 road matchup against the Giants on New Year's Eve.
