Wonnum has been dealing with some complications from his quadriceps surgery this offseason, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Wonnum underwent surgery in December to repair a torn quadriceps suffered last season, but he appears to still be on the mend. It's unclear how long he may remain sidelined and if he'll be ready for the start of training camp.

Wonnum (quadriceps) is missing voluntary workouts Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Wonnum is still on the mend after surgery to repair his quadriceps, which he injured during Week 16 of last season. The South Carolina product inked a deal with the Panthers in March, so although it seems the franchise is not worried about his injury, it's not clear yet when he'll be ready to participate in the team's offseason programs.

The Panthers signed Wonnum (quadriceps) to a two-year deal Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Wonnum was forced to miss the end of the Vikings' 2023 campaign due to a quadriceps injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. The 26-year-old edge rusher is coming off the most productive season of his career, appearing in 15 games and recording 62 total tackles, including 8.0 sacks, while also defending six passes. With the departure of Brian Burns this offseason, Wonnum has a chance to serve as the Panthers' top pass rusher in 2024.

Has surgery on quad

Wonnum had surgery on his quadriceps after being placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

The linebacker tore his quad during the Vikings' Week 16 loss to the Lions and is out for the season. In 15 games in 2023, the fourth-year pro set or matched career highs in tackles (62), sacks (eight) and passes defensed (six). Wonnum will become a free agent in March.

The Vikings placed Wonnum (quad) on injured reserve Wednesday.

The fourth-year edge rusher tore his quad in the Week 16 loss to the Lions and is obviously done for the season. Wonnum was having a breakout season under first-year DC Brian Flores, playing a career-best 83 percent of the defensive snaps and matching his previous career high with eight sacks. He's scheduled to hit free agency in March.

Out for season

Head coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed that Wonnum tore his quadriceps in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Lions, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

The 26-year-old linebacker had appeared in all 15 of Minnesota's games before sustaining this quadriceps injury, recording 62 total tackles, including seven tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks. Wonnum is expected to shift over to injured reserve soon, and once that transaction occurs, he'll miss the remainder of the season.

Likely done for the year

Wonnum (quadriceps) suffered a partially torn quad during Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The Vikings haven't yet confirmed whether Wonnum's injury is season-ending, but the severity of a quad tear indicates that the veteran linebacker will likely require surgery and be placed on IR. Through 15 games this season Wonnum has racked up a career-high 62 tackles (33 solo) to go with eight sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one touchdown.

Dealing with quadriceps injury

Head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters after Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Lions that the team is evaluating Wonnum to confirm a quadriceps injury, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Wonnum was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game in what was originally reported as a knee injury. The fact he was carted off the field doesn't bode well for his chances to play in either (or both) of the Vikings' final two games of the season.

Wonnum (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's contest against the Lions, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Wonnum sustained a left knee injury on a pass rush attempt early in the fourth quarter and was carted off the field shortly after. He finishes Sunday's game with four tackles (two solo).
