Returns for OTAs

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-05-22

Gray (shoulder) was spotted working out during the 49ers' OTAs earlier this week.

Gray, who missed all of San Francisco's 2023 campaign due to a shoulder injury, appears to be fully healthy once again as he participates in the team's OTAs. The 2022 third-round pick out of SMU saw limited work during his rookie season, tallying just 10 receiving yards and one reception through 13 games. With the 49ers adding Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing in the 2024 NFL Draft, Gray will have to battle to earn a depth role in San Francisco's wide receiver room this offseason.

Unavailable for postseason

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-17

Gray (shoulder) had his 21-day practice window expire Wednesday and he'll remain on injured reserve for the postseason, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Gray was designated to return from IR in late December, but he will ultimately be forced to remain sidelined for the rest of the playoffs after his practice window passed without him being added to the active roster. The wide receiver failed to appear in a game during the 2023 campaign and he'll now shift his focus to being ready to go for the 2024 season.

Won't play Week 18

Gray (shoulder) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams.

Gray was a full participant in all three practice sessions this week, but he'll remain on the team's IR to end the season. He was placed on the 49ers' injured reserve list Aug. 30 after spraining his shoulder in the preseason. Gray will have two weeks to get himself ready for San Francisco's first game of the playoffs.

Questionable for Sunday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-05

Gray (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gray remains on injured reserve but is eligible to be activated prior to Sunday's contest. He's yet to play this season but could have an opportunity to see offensive playing time against Los Angeles with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk expected to rest.

Full practice Wednesday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-01-03

Gray (shoulder) was a full participant at the 49ers' practice Wednesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Gray was designated to return from injured reserve last week and his full participation to open the week seems to suggest that he's nearing an activation by San Francisco. If activated, the 24-year-old will provide the team with some added depth behind the likes of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk at wide receiver heading into the postseason.

Won't return Week 17

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-30

Gray (shoulder) has been downgraded to out ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders.

Despite a full week of practice, Gray will remain on injured reserve through Week 17 as he continues to nurse a shoulder issue. The 24-year-old has spent the entire year on injured reserve and he'll look to make his return in Week 18 against the Rams.

Designated to return from IR

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-27

Gray (shoulder) was designated to return from injured reserve by the 49ers on Wednesday.

Gray has been on IR since Aug. 30 due to a sprained shoulder, but the team has now opened a 21-day window for him to return to practice and ultimately be added to the active roster. If the wide receiver is unable to be activated in that time frame, he'll revert to IR for the remainder of the season. Gray caught one pass for 10 yards while also adding a nine-yard rush while playing 85 offensive snaps over 13 games in his rookie campaign with the 49ers in 2022.

Headed for IR

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-08-30

Gray (shoulder) is starting the season on injured reserve and will miss a minimum of four games, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The earliest he can make his 2023 debut is Week 5 against Dallas on Oct. 8. Until then, Jauan Jennings won't have much competition for the No. 3 WR role, though it's deemphasized in a 49ers offense that often uses a fullback and sometimes a second tight end. With fellow depth wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (wrist) also out for the start of the season, seventh-round rookie Ronnie Bell could get some snaps off the bench early in the year.

Sprains shoulder

Gray has a sprained joint in his right shoulder, Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports.

Gray injured his shoulder during San Francisco's win versus the Broncos on Saturday and will now likely miss the start of the season. The 2022 third-round pick could now find his roster spot in jeopardy as he only caught one pass on seven targets for 10 yards during his rookie season
