Takes hard hit

Sills left practice early Thursday after suffering what appeared to be a back or rib injury, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Sills sustained the injury while landing hard on the ground on an attempted catch. However, he was able to walk off the field on his own. The soon-to-be 27-year-old appeared in nine games for the Giants last season, making 11 catches on 17 targets for 106 yards. He's expected to be fighting for a depth role in the Giants' receiving corps, which added Parris Campbell, Jeff Smith and Jamison Crowder in free agency, while also adding Jalin Hyatt in the third round of the 2023 Draft.

Inks new deal with Big Blue

Sills signed a reserve/future contract with the Giants on Thursday.
Sills opened the 2022 season as a member of the Giants' starting wide-receiver corps, playing at least 63 percent of offensive snaps in all but one of the first four games. However, the 26-year-old logged more than two receptions just once, and he saw a significant drop in playing time before being ruled a healthy scratch six times between Weeks 10 to 16. Sills was then waived Dec. 31 and finished the season on the practice squad. He'll now work to earn his way back onto the Giants' 53-man roster ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Sills was waived by the Giants on Saturday, but he'll now return to the team's practice squad. He's appeared in nine games for the Giants this season, making 11 catches on 17 targets for 106 yards. Although, most of that work took place early in the season, as the 26-year-old was a healthy scratch for six of the team's last seven contests.

Sills played a significant role for New York early in the season, logging between 43 and 91 percent of the team's offensive snaps during each contest between Week 1 and Week 5. However, his opportunities have tailed off since then, and he was a healthy scratch six times over the past seven weeks. Sills has been with the Giants organization since 2019 but may now seek work elsewhere.
