Carter caught four passes for 39 yards on seven targets and rushed three times for 18 yards in 17 games during the 2023 season. He also returned 24 punts for 232 yards and 11 kicks for 262 yards.

Carter, who'll turn 31 years old in April, served primarily as a return man in his first season with the Raiders, logging just 102 total offensive snaps across 17 contests. The journeyman wide receiver is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, so it's uncertain that he'll be back as a specialist in Las Vegas.

Gets two snaps on offense Week 14

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-13

Carter played two of the Raiders' 54 snaps on offense in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Vikings and returned one kickoff for 16 yards and four punts for 39 yards.

After establishing career highs with 44 catches and 538 receiving yards in 17 games with the Chargers in 2022, Carter has barely factored into the Raiders' plans at receiver upon joining the club on a one-year deal this offseason. He's been active for all 13 of Las Vegas' games, but he's produced a 3-36-0 receiving line on six targets while playing just 88 snaps on offense. Carter is still locked in as the Raiders' top kickoff and punt returner, but any opportunities he might earn on offense are likely tied to the health of Las Vegas' top three wideouts (Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow).

Racks up 74 return yards Sunday

Carter rushed once for 15 yards in Sunday's 16-12 win over the Jets. He also returned three punts for 49 yards and one kickoff for 25 yards.

Carter continues to get a majority of his work in the return game, playing just seven offensive snaps for the Raiders on Sunday Night Football. His 15-yard run was good enough to move the chains on a fourth and one from Las Vegas' own 44-yard line in the fourth quarter, but Carter's touch volume figures to remain limited against the Dolphins in Week 11.

Makes 16-yard grab on SNF

Carter caught his only target for 16 yards in Sunday's 23-18 loss to the Steelers. He also returned five punts for 44 yards.

Carter's punt return duties kept him busy on special teams, but offensively he logged just eight snaps to rookie wide receiver Tre Tucker's 12. Carter has been targeted once in each of the Raiders' first three games, while Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers continue to command a majority of the looks from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (concussion).

Targeted once in loss

Carter was unable to haul in his only target in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Bills.

Carter returned one kickoff for 23 yards, but he logged just nine offensive snaps despite fellow receiver Jakobi Meyers (concussion) missing the contest. Davante Adams left early with a possible concussion of his own Sunday, so the Raiders could be even thinner at the position against the Steelers in Week 3. If Meyers and Adams remain sidelined, Carter might see additional work alongside Hunter Renfrow, Kristian Wilkerson and Tre Tucker.

Healthy for Week 2 unlike Meyers

Carter (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game in Buffalo, while fellow receiver Jakobi Meyers (concussion) has been ruled out.

Carter trended in the right direction all week, upgrading to limited participation Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice, and practicing fully Friday to shed the injury designation. In addition to returning kickoffs and punts on special teams, Carter's a candidate to see increased action alongside Davante Adams in Meyers' absence, though Hunter Renfrow, Kristian Wilkerson and Tre Tucker could also earn more attention from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo against the Bills.

Mixes into practice Thursday

Carter (knee) was a limited participant at practice Thursday ahead of Sunday's game at Buffalo.

It's a step in the right direction towards being able to suit up for Week 2 after Carter missed practice entirely Wednesday. With number two wideout Jakobi Meyers dealing with a concussion, he could potentially be set up for increased reps at the Bills.

Sits out practice Wednesday

Carter (knee) didn't participate in practice Wednesday.

Carter dealt with a knee issue throughout last week, logging a trio of limited practices. He was able to play against Denver on Sunday, however, finishing with nine offensive snaps and catching his only target for five yards. It's not a promising sign that the offseason acquisition is beginning this week with a DNP, though he'll have two days to get back on the practice field ahead of Sunday's contest in Buffalo.

One catch in season opener

Carter caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Broncos.

Carter's only catch in the season opener came on the Raiders' final drive of the contest, and he ultimately played just 10 snaps on offense. Fellow receivers Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers combined for 147 yards and two touchdowns on 15 receptions, but the latter sustained a head injury and will need to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in order to suit up against the Bills in Week 2. If Meyers remains sidelined, Carter and Hunter Renfrow could see their roles expand.
