Gore played six games for the Commanders in 2023 and took three carries for 23 yards.

Gore spent much of the season on the practice squad and got a few chances to work as Washington's No. 3 RB. He ended up playing 24 snaps on offense and 88 on special teams, and he'll try to find a similar depth role somewhere in the NFL for his age-29/30 season in 2024.

The Commanders signed Gore to their active roster Friday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Washington likely signed Gore to ensure depth at running back with Brian Robinson (hamstring) in line to miss his second consecutive game Sunday. Gore is expected to serve as the Commanders' No. 3 RB in Week 16 behind both Antonio Gibson and Chris Rodriguez.

Reverts to practice squad

Gore reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

The running back played on three of 81 offensive snaps Sunday against the Giants, carrying the ball twice for 23 yards, with all 23 yards coming on a single carry. With Antonio Gibson out due to a toe injury, Gore's snap count finished behind Brian Robinson's 63 and Chris Rodriguez's 16. Gore also played a snap on special teams.

Works as No. 3 RB

Gore took two carries for 23 yards in a 31-19 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Gore played just three snaps on offense and one on special teams in his third ever appearance for the Commanders. He's either been third or fourth on the depth chart for most of the year and only got snaps on offense Week 11 because Antonio Gibson (toe) was inactive. Brian Robinson played 78 percent of snaps for Washington and took 24 touches for 131 yards.

Elevated from practice squad

The Commanders elevated Gore from their practice squad Saturday.

Gore's elevation likely means that Antonio Gibson, who entered the weekend listed as doubtful due to a toe injury, won't suit up. This is the third time Gore has been elevated this season, and he tallied 13 offensive snaps without getting a touch or a target over Weeks 4 and 5. He'll likely work in a limited role behind fellow tailbacks Brian Robinson and Chris Rodriguez against the Giants on Sunday.

Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Gore would be elevated from Washington's practice squad to its active roster for Week 11 in the event that Antonio Gibson (toe) is out, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.

Gibson is officially listed as doubtful, which likely means Gore is something close to probable to be available versus the Giants. In two games so far this season, he still has not recorded a touch.

Reverts to practice squad

Washington reverted Gore to its practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Gore was elevated to the active roster for Thursday's loss to Chicago and served as the Commanders' third running back in the place of Chris Rodriguez (illness). Gore played seven snaps on offense and 18 on special teams without registering any stats. He could be elevated again to face Atlanta in Week 6 if Rodriguez needs to miss a third straight game.

Will be available vs. Chicago

Washington elevated Gore from its practice squad to the active roster ahead of Thursday's game versus the Bears.

Gore played six offensive snaps for the Commanders in Week 4, and with rookie Chris Rodriguez (illness) out again, Gore will get another chance to serve as the third option at running back. He didn't get any touches Sunday at Philadelphia, and he hasn't carried the ball during the regular season since 2021.
