Signs contract tender with Arizona

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-04-03

Dortch signed his one-year exclusive rights tender with the Cardinals on Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Dortch is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he recorded 24 receptions (on 41 targets) for 280 yards and two TDs in 16 contests for Arizona. With Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore no longer with the team, Dortch figures to see added opportunities in 2024, though to what degree remains to be seen since the Cardinals figure add wideout depth in the coming weeks via the NFL Draft and/or free agency.

Big opportunity ahead?

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-03-15

Dortch is part of a thin WR room in Arizona after the team traded Rondale Moore and lost Marquise Brown in free agency, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.

The 5-foot-7 slot man and return specialist had eight games with seven or more targets over the past two seasons, seeing passes at an unusual rate for someone that only got significant playing time when injuries forced other players out of the lineup. Dortch might get a real opportunity in 2024, though the Cardinals still have time to strengthen their WR group, particularly via the NFL Draft in April. He received a qualifying tender last week as an exclusive rights free agent, and he'll turn 26 this spring heading into this fourth year with the Cardinals.

Tendered by Cardinals

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-03-07

Arizona offered Dortch a qualifying tender of $1.13 million for the 2024 season, Jason Fitzgerald of Over the Cap reports.

Dortch, an exclusive rights free agent, has no choice but to sign the tender offered to him by the Cardinals if he wants to play in the NFL for the 2024 season. Across 16 appearances last season Dortch mostly contributed as Arizona's top punt and kick returner, but he also contributed on offense upon Kyler Murray's mid-season return from injury. In all, he secured 24 passes for 280 yards and two scores.

Serves mostly on returns in 2023

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-02-08

Dortch reeled in 24 of 41 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, had one five-yard carry, recorded 17 kick returns for 360 yards and returned 29 punts for 275 yards in 16 regular-season games in 2023.

Dortch was barely utilized (one target) before Week 9, but with Kyler Murray back from a torn ACL thereafter, the wide receiver was a regular option for the quarterback the rest of the way. Even though a variety of injuries stretched the receiving corps thin during that span, Dortch mustered just a 23-278-2 line on 39 targets over the final eight contests of the campaign. He's an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason, so he likely will be a member of the Cardinals in 2024 assuming they tender him a contract.

Leads team with 82 yards

Dortch pulled in all seven of his targets for 82 yards in Sunday's 35-31 win over the Eagles.

Dortch served as one of the Cardinals' top targets sans Marquise Brown (heel) in Sunday's thrilling comeback victory over the Eagles. Dortch wound up finishing with more receiving yards than any receiver from either team Sunday. The Wake Forest product has stepped up when called upon at various points of the season, averaging 4.5 receptions and 56.8 yards with two touchdowns in the four games he has been targeted five or more times. With Hollywood Brown already being placed on injured reserve, Dortch figures to serve as a top wideout for Arizona in Week 18.

Active in Week 16

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-24

Dortch (shoulder) is listed as active Sunday in Chicago, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

After opening Week 16 prep with back-to-back absences due to a shoulder injury, Dortch mixed into drills Friday as a limited participant. Coach Jonathan Gannon then told Johnny Venerable of GoPHNX.com that Dortch was trending in the "right direction" to play in Sunday's game, which has come to pass. With the Cardinals' top wide receiver Marquise Brown (heel) inactive, Dortch will be among the options at the position for quarterback Kyler Murray along with Michael Wilson and Rondale Moore.

Listed as questionable

Dortch (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Dortch returned to practice Friday as a limited participant after missing the previous two sessions, with coach Jonathan Gannon telling reporters the wide receiver is trending in the "right direction" to suit up Sunday, per Johnny Venerable of PHNX Cardinals. If so, Dortch figures to occupy a top-three role alongside Michael Wilson and Rondale Moore, as Marquise Brown (heel) has been ruled out after missing practice all week. The Cardinals and Bears are scheduled for a late-afternoon kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Returning to practice

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-22

Dortch (shoulder) will return to practice Friday and could play in Sunday's game at Chicago, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

It sounds like Dortch is headed for a 'questionable' designation on the final injury report, after missing practice Wednesday and Thursday. Marquise Brown, meanwhile, has been ruled out for Week 16 after aggravating his heel injury yet again during the Week 15 loss to San Francisco. If he makes it through Friday's practice without incident, Dortch could get a lot of snaps and targets in Chicago this Sunday.

Another DNP on Thursday

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-12-21

Dortch (shoulder) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Dortch has kicked off Week 16 prep with back-to-back absences due to a shoulder issue, giving him just one more opportunity to get back on the practice field this week. The Cardinals' top wide receiver Marquise Brown also has yet to mix into drills due to a lingering heel injury. In the end, Friday's practice report may clear up the statuses of one or both players ahead of Sunday's contest at Chicago.
