Mukuamu (hamstring) recorded two tackles (one solo) in Saturday's 28-23 exhibition loss to the Jaguars.

Mukuamu had been sidelined earlier in camp due to a hamstring issue, but his participation in the Cowboys' preseason opener implies he has recovered. The strong safety saw 23 defensive snaps (28 percent) in the contest. He is attempting to secure a role backing up Jayron Kearse at strong safety this season.

Out indefinitely

Cowboys' head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Thursday that Mukuamu (hamstring) is dealing with a multiple week injury, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

The 2021 sixth-round pick's injury is worse than originally expected after he left Wednesday's practice as a precautionary measure with a sore hamstring. Last year, the South Carolina product appeared in 15 games and made three starts for Dallas, totaling 17 tackles and one pass breakup. Once Mukuamu is healthy, he will compete for the starting strong safety position with veterans Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse.

Mukuamu suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday's training camp practice and will undergo further evaluation, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Per Gehlken, Mukuamu felt his hamstring tighten up and pulled himself out of practice as a precaution. He's slated to undergo an MRI on Thursday to determine the severity, but it isn't expected to be a long-term injury.
