The Browns placed Phillips (pectoral) on injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported earlier Saturday that Phillips would miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Friday's preseason loss to Washington, so the linebacker's shift to injured reserve is merely transactional. Phillips also suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in 2022, but he appeared to have moved past that issue when he was back in action during the Browns' offseason workouts this summer. Either way, the 2020 third-round pick has a lengthy recovery ahead of him and isn't under contract for 2024.

Phillips will miss the remainder of the 2023 season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Friday's 17-15 preseason loss to Washington, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Phillips' 2022 campaign also came to a premature end due to a pectoral injury, so this is an unfornuate break. He had seemingly moved past the injury when he participated in the Browns' OTAs. The 2020 third-round pick will now focus on another recovery journey.
Hurts shoulder

Phillips left Friday's preseason opener with a shoulder injury, Ashley Bastock of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
While the severity of the injury is not yet known, Phillips was seen with a sling on his right arm following the game. Prior to sustaining the injury, he recorded five tackles (three solo). When healthy, the Browns are hopeful he can provide depth at linebacker for them this season.

Phillips landed on IR last October, but now appears past the pectoral injury he suffered in Week 7 last season. The 2020 third-round pick appeared in seven games during the 2022 campaign and logged 46 tackles (29 solo) and two sacks and will likely serve as a backup to Anthony Walker this coming season.
