Just two catches as No. 1 receiver
Dotson was targeted four times in the Eagles' Week 4 loss to the Bucs, finishing with two catches for 11 yards.
Dotson was expected to see an expanded role as the team's top wideout in the absence of A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion), and while he did indeed see a season-high number of targets, it's hard to say he made much of an impact. The Eagles have a bye in Week 5, buying Brown and Smith an extra week to recover and push Dotson back down the depth chart.

Serving as top wideout Sunday
Dotson is in line to serve as the Eagles' No. 1 receiver for Sunday's Week 4 matchup against the Buccaneers with both A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) ruled out for the contest.
Dotson has shown very little over the last two games despite Brown's absence, and he's produced just a 3-14 line on five targets over his first three regular-season contests overall. However, the combination of Dotson's speed, the fact he's had another week to acclimate to the Eagles' playbook following his late-August arrival via trade with the Commanders, and the expansive void the absences of Brown and Smith could represent the perfect storm of opportunity and circumstances for Dotson to thrive versus what's been an inconsistent and still short-handed Buccaneers secondary.
Starts again, just two catches
Dotson served a starting role in Week 3 against the Saints but had just two catches for eight yards on three targets.
Dotson again filled a larger role with A.J. Brown (hamstring) unavailable, but Jalen Hurts wound up giving double-digit targets to both Dallas Goedert and DeVonta Smith and no more than four to anyone else. Smith suffered a concussion late in Monday's game, so if both he and Brown wind up missing Week 4 against the Bucs, it's possible Dotson could see an expanded target share.
Just one catch Monday
Dotson had one reception on as many targets in Monday's 22-21 loss to Atlanta.
Dotson was expected to see an increased role with star wideout A.J. Brown (hamstring) missing Monday's contest due to injury. The opposite scenario unfolded in a contest where the Eagles ran for more yards than the offense passed for against Atlanta's defense. Brown's injury is already expected to cost the No. 1 receiver multiple weeks of action, opening the door for auxiliary options like Dotson to see increased roles (despite Monday's one-catch dud). Dotson should remain in play for deep-league managers against the Saints on Sunday.
Should see added work Monday
With A.J. Brown (hamstring) having been downgraded to out, Dotson figures to see added work in Monday night's game against the Falcons.
Dotson logged 32 snaps behind Brown (72 snaps) and DeVonta Smith (76 snaps) in the Eagles' season opener against the Packers. When referencing Dotson ahead of Week 2 action, coach Nick Sirianni noted "in the case if he has to step up and play more meaningful snaps, I got a lot of confidence in him because he's done a nice job....he's done a really good job since he's been here. Really good practices." With that in mind, Dotson represents a lineup option for those scrambling to replace Brown this week.
No catches in Eagles debut
Dotson finished his Eagles debut Friday against the Packers with zero catches on one target.
Dotson was on the field for 32 offensive snaps, well ahead of fellow depth wideouts Johnny Wilson (10) and Britain Covey (9), but the only time quarterback Jalen Hurts looked his way, it nearly resulted in a pick six. Dotson's role can only grow from here, and he's likely to be more involved once he's had more than two full weeks of practice with his new team, which acquired him from the Commanders in late August, but the Eagles haven't tended to give many targets to receivers other than A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in recent seasons.
Headed to Philadelphia
The Commanders have traded Dotson and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft to the Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-rounder, as well as two seventh-rounds picks.
Dotson is thus slated to join a Philadelphia wideout corps that will continue to be led by A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. In his new locale, Dotson should serve as the team's No. 3 WR, a role that may not result in high weekly volume, as long as Brown and Smith remain healthy. In 17 regular-season contests in 2023, the 2022 first-rounder caught 49 of his 83 targets for 518 yards and four TDs.
One catch in preseason loss
Dotson secured one of two targets for three yards in the Commanders' 13-6 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.
Dotson was on the field with Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown to open the game, playing ahead of rookie third-round pick Luke McCaffrey. Dotson is trying to hold on to the No. 2 receiver job at McCaffrey's expense, and the competition between the two is likely to come down to the last few training camp practices and the Aug. 25 preseason finale versus the Patriots.
Not locked in as a starter
Coach Dan Quinn suggested Wednesday that Dotson hasn't locked down the No. 2 receiver job, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Quinn said the Commanders are "in the middle of" a search for their No. 2 receiver, with John Keim of ESPN.com noting that Olamide Zaccheaus has been more consistent than Dotson in training camp. This may seem surprising given that Dotson was a first-round pick in 2022 and had a promising rookie season, but he was one of the least efficient starting WRs in the league last year in terms of both per-target and per-route production. He then played most of the first half in Washington's preseason opener against the Jets on Saturday, whereas sure-thing starters like QB Jayden Daniels and WR Terry McLaurin mostly were removed after the first drive.
