Reaches injury settlement with CAR

The Panthers cut Luton (undisclosed) from their practice squad Wednesday after the sides reached an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

It's unclear what type of issue Luton is dealing with, but he's parted ways with Carolina for the second time in the past month. The quarterback out of Oregon State hasn't taken an NFL regular-season snap since he got into three games with the Jaguars in 2020.

Let go again

Luton was cut from the Panthers' practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.

Luton was previously let go by the Panthers and then brought back earlier in December. However, with the season getting closer to its end, the 27-year-old may not get that opportunity this year.

The Panthers signed Luton to their practice squad Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.

The 27-year-old quarterback is back with the Panthers' practice squad after getting cut just five days ago. Luton has spent time with both Carolina and New Orleans this season, and his most recent in-game action came back in 2020 with the Jaguars.

Luton was cut from the Panthers' practice squad Thursday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

Luton has bounced back and forth between Carolina and New Orleans' practice squads this season and rejoined the Panthers on Oct. 25. His exit comes as the team added Deonte Brown back to their practice squad to beef up their offensive line depth.

Carolina signed Luton to its practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

A little over a week after being cut loose by New Orleans, Luton has now found another opportunity with the Saints' division rival. As long as Bryce Young and Andy Dalton remain healthy though, Luton doesn't have a realistic path to playing time.

Waived by New Orleans

The Saints waived Luton Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

With rookie Jake Haener coming off suspension, Luton is no longer needed behind Derek Carr and Jameis Winston. A 2020 sixth-round pick by Jacksonville, Luton hasn't played in a regular-season game since his rookie year when he started three contests, totaling two touchdowns and six interceptions.

Won't suit up Sunday

Luton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.

Luton latched on with the Saints when Derek Carr was dealing with a shoulder injury. However, the latter never had to miss any time, leaving Luton as the No. 4 quarterback behind Carr, Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. Luton hasn't appeared in an NFL regular-season game since 2020.

Will not suit up

Luton (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Buccaneers.

Luton joined the team Tuesday as a potential emergency option with Derek Carr (shoulder) ailing. However, with Carr healthy enough to start and Jameis Winston set to back him up, Luton will be the odd man out.

Returns to New Orleans

Luton was signed off the Panthers' practice squad by the Saints on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Luton will likely operate as the team's No. 2 quarterback Sunday against the Buccaneers with Jake Haener still serving a three-game suspension, and Derek Carr expected to be out with a shoulder injury. The Oregon State product spent time with New Orleans in 2022 and should be familiar with the offense making him a viable emergency option for the franchise.
