Had minor ankle procedure

Latest Headline: Published 2023-04-18

Hurts underwent offseason surgery to remove "hardware" from a previous high-ankle sprain, ESPN's Tim McManus reports.

Hurts originally had the hardware inserted back in 2018 when he was still at Alabama. He underwent the most recent surgery back in February following the Eagles' Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, but Hurts has already "returned to his offseason workout routine" and appears to be ready to roll for OTAs as a full participant. Hurts is fresh off inking a five-year, $255 million extension with Philadelphia on Monday. Hurts should again be viewed as an elite fantasy quarterback, in the same tier with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

Becomes highest-paid NFL player

Latest Headline: Published 2023-04-17

The Eagles signed Hurts to a five-year contract extension Monday.

Hurts' new contract is for $255 million and makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Additionally, the extension through 2028 includes a no-trade clause and $179.3 million in guarantees. After leading Philadelphia to a narrow 38-35 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs in just his second season as the Eagles' starter, it's little surprise to see general manager Howie Roseman lock in the franchise quarterback with a long-term deal. Heading into his age-25 season, Hurts has already established himself as one of the league's elite quarterbacks and one of the few premier fantasy options at the position. With A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert still headlining his receiving corps, and Rashaad Penny having filled the backfield void left by Miles Sanders' departure, Hurts is positioned well to continue his streak of outstanding production heading into the 2023 campaign.

Four total touchdowns in SB loss

Latest Headline: Published 2023-02-12

Hurts completed 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 38-35 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. He added 15 rushes for 70 yards and three touchdowns.

As was the case for much of the season, Hurts was dynamic as both a rusher and passer. He made a mistake early in the game on a fumble that was returned for a touchdown but otherwise moved the Eagles offense all game. Hurts connected with A.J. Brown for a deep 45-yard pass early in the second quarter for his lone passing score of the game. He also punched in three rushing touchdowns from short range. Despite Philadelphia coming up just short of a Super Bowl victory, Hurts established himself as an elite quarterback in the league in 2022.

Quiet performance in big win

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-29

Hurts completed 15 of 25 passes for 121 yards and added 39 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in Sunday's 31-7 win over the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

What seemed like it would be a fearsome battle turned into a rout after the Niners lost Brock Purdy to an elbow injury early in the game and were forced to turn to journeyman Josh Johnson (concussion) under center. As a result, the Eagles didn't really need to air it out at all, and all four of the team's TDs came on the ground. Hurts picked up one of them on a one-yard run late in the third quarter, but he otherwise didn't need to do too much. The low passing numbers could give rise to questions about the health of his right throwing shoulder, but with two weeks to rest before the Super Bowl, Hurts should be 100 percent as Philly tries to win its second title in six seasons.

Three total TDs in playoff win

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-21

Hurts completed 16 of 24 passes for 154 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Eagles' 38-7 divisional-round win over the Giants on Saturday night. He also rushed nine times for 34 yards and another score and fumbled once but recovered.

Hurts' final numbers weren't his most spectacular by any stretch, but the versatile signal-caller was certainly efficient while parlaying three of his 25 touches into scores. The third-year star's relatively modest numbers were a reflection of how especially effective the offense was in the first half, when Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert and DeVonta Smith for scoring tosses of 16 and nine yards, respectively. Hurts then added a five-yard touchdown run just before intermission to cap off a 14-play, 72-yard march, and Philadelphia was largely able to rely on its ground attack the rest of the way courtesy of its 28-0 halftime lead. Hurts will now set his sights on facing either the Cowboys or 49ers in an NFC Championship Game clash a week from Sunday.

Set for divisional round

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-18

Hurts (shoulder) hasn't been listed on Eagles injury reports in advance of Saturday's divisional-round game against the Giants, Sage Hurley of the team's official site reports.

Hurts was sidelined Weeks 16 and 17 due to an SC joint sprain in his right throwing shoulder, but he returned to action for the regular-season finale Jan. 8 versus the Giants. In the process of eking out a 22-16 victory, he completed 20 of 35 passes for 229 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while running nine times for 13 yards. With a first-round bye in his back pocket, Hurts has put the injury further in the rearview mirror and even noted Tuesday that he's "feeling good." While his health may not be at 100 percent, the third-year quarterback nonetheless is ready to direct Philadelphia's offense in its playoff opener.

Eased back into lineup

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-08

Hurts completed 20 of 35 passes for 229 yards and an interception and gained 13 rushing yards on nine carries in Sunday's 22-16 win over the Giants.

Seeing his first action since Week 15 due to a shoulder injury, Hurts wasn't asked to do too much to help Philadelphia lock up the top seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported after the game that Hurts' shoulder was still sore, so the extra week off will help the 24-year-old quarterback get closer to 100 percent healthy ahead of the divisional round.

Back in action in Week 18

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-08

Hurts (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game versus the Giants

Making his first appearance since Week 15, Hurts will work through any lingering issues with his sprained right throwing shoulder as the Eagles seek the No. 1 seed in the NFC. During a Week 14 road win against the Giants, he completed 21 of 31 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing seven times for 77 yards and another score. Another productive outing for Hurts may be in store against a New York team that may not use many regulars due to being locked into the sixth seed in the NFC.

Expected to start

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-07

Hurts (shoulder), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants, is expected to start, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Hurts' status won't be officially confirmed until the Eagles release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, but all signs point to the quarterback putting an end to his two-game absence after he managed to practice in some capacity all week. The Eagles are guaranteed the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win over the Giants, who are already locked into the No. 6 seed and are expected to start third-stringer Davis Webb in place of Daniel Jones, according to Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record. With that in mind, Hurts likely won't be at risk of being limited Sunday, at least as long as the game is competitive.

Listed as questionable

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-06

Hurts (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.

Hurts was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday, though head coach Nick Sirianni noted after the final session of the week that the quarterback is "trending in the right direction" for Sunday, per Zach Berman of The Athletic. The Eagles may treat him as a game-day decision ahead of their 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, with Gardner Minshew ready for a third straight start if Hurts ultimately is declared inactive. A win Sunday would give the Eagles the No. 1 seed in the NFC, while a loss would drop them to No. 5 if the Cowboys beat the Commanders. The Giants, meanwhile, are locked in as the No. 6 seed and may pull or rest some starters to prepare for the wild-card round.

Trending toward playing Sunday

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-06

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Friday that Hurts (shoulder) is "trending in the right direction" as this weekend's game against the Giants approaches, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.

Hurts has opened Week 18 prep with two straight limited practice sessions, and unless he upgrades to full activity Friday, the quarterback could carry a questionable designation into the regular-season finale. Even in that scenario, Hurts would still appear to be on track for the start, given that he hasn't experienced any reported setbacks in his recovery from the right shoulder sprain that sidelined him for the past two games. The Eagles will secure the NFC's No. 1 overall seed with a win over the Giants, so expect Hurts to attempt to play through the injury even if he's less than 100 percent.

Stays limited Thursday

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-05

Hurts (right shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Thursday.

During the media-access portion of Thursday's session, Hurts went through a ball-security drill that he was absent from a week ago, according to Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Hurts also made throws with good velocity across his body while running to his left and again was the first quarterback to work in individual drills, per Tim McManus of Still, Hurts logged a second consecutive capped session to kick off Week 18 prep, leaving his status up in the air for Sunday's contest against the Giants. His listing on Friday's injury report will be telling for his chances to put an end to a two-game absence due to a sprained right throwing shoulder.

Officially limited Wednesday

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-04

Hurts (shoulder) was a limited participant at Wednesday's walk-through practice.

Per Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Hurts worked with the first-team offense to kick off Week 18 prep, but his eventual workload wasn't enough for him to be considered a full participant. There's an expectation that Hurts will return from a two-game absence Sunday against the Giants, but he may need to log full activity in a practice to prove he's past his sprained right throwing shoulder.

Status being taken day-by-day

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-04

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Wednesday that Hurts (shoulder) is still being evaluated day-by-day, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Since the Eagles are merely holding a walk-through session Wednesday to begin Week 18 prep, Sirianni said he doesn't expect to know more about where Hurts stands in his recovery from the SC joint sprain in his right shoulder until Thursday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network previously reported that Hurts is expected to put an end to his two-game absence and play Sunday versus the Giants, but fantasy managers will want to monitor the situation until Sirianni officially makes a decision about the star quarterback's status. Philadelphia is coming off consecutive losses with Gardner Minshew under center, but a win over New York on Sunday would clinch the NFC East division title as well as the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs.

Expected to play Week 18

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-02

Hurts (shoulder) is expected to play Sunday against the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Per Rapoport, Hurts would've played Week 17 if it had been a playoff game, but the Eagles opted to exercise the utmost caution to avoid a potential setback with the star quarterback's injured shoulder. Philadelphia has lost back-to-back games without Hurts and will look to get back on track against the Giants before postseason play begins. Despite Rapoport's encouraging update, fantasy managers still should monitor Hurts' participation at practice during Week 18 prep before locking him into lineups.

Officially out Sunday

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-01

Hurts (shoulder) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Saints.

Hurts provided a glimmer of hope when he returned to practice Thursday, but after putting together back-to-back limited sessions to end Week 17 prep, the Eagles listed him as doubtful to play Sunday due to the sprained right throwing shoulder that he suffered Week 15 in Chicago. He'll thus cede quarterback duties to Gardner Minshew on Sunday, while Hurts himself will attempt to put himself in position to return for a Week 18 matchup with the Giants.

Not expected to play Sunday

Latest Headline: Published 2023-01-01

Hurts (right shoulder) is not in line to play Sunday against the Saints, but he is expected to be available for the Eagles' Week 18 contest against the Giants, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Official confirmation of Hurts' Week 17 status will arrive when Philadelphia's inactives are posted ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, with the QB having been listed as doubtful by the team after logging limited practices Thursday and Friday. Assuming Hurts isn't available versus New Orleans, Gardner Minshew will be slated to make his second straight start, while the Eagles' approach with regard to whether or how much to play Hurts next weekend will presumably hinge on if the team has clinched the NFC's No. 1 seed or not.

Doubtful for Week 17

Latest Headline: Published 2022-12-30

Hurts (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Saints, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.

After sitting out Week 16 due to a sprained right throwing shoulder, Hurts returned to the practice field Thursday and maintained a limited listing into Friday's session. Despite showing signs of progress, though, he appears destined to be unavailable Sunday. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Friday that Hurts did show significant strides this week, so even if he doesn't play Week 17, he may be an option to suit up Week 18 against the Giants, especially if the Eagles have yet to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. With Hurts expected to sit this weekend, Gardner Minshew is in line to get another start under center for Philadelphia.

Limited at Thursday's practice

Latest Headline: Published 2022-12-29

Hurts (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Thursday.

Hurts was on the field for warmups and proceeded to get reps ahead of both Gardner Minshew and Ian Book, per Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer. It's the first sign that a return to action may be imminent for Hurts, who sat out a Week 16 loss at Dallas due to a sprained right throwing shoulder. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not he'll avoid a designation heading into the weekend, but he more than likely will be listed as questionable if he has a chance to play Sunday versus the Saints.

Back at practice Thursday

Latest Headline: Published 2022-12-29

Hurts (shoulder) took part in warmups ahead of Thursday's practice, Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

This marks Hurts' first action since spraining his right throwing shoulder Dec. 18 in Chicago and his first practice since Dec. 16. According to Tolentino, Hurts actually worked ahead of fellow quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Ian Book, a fair sign that he's potentially putting himself in position to play Sunday against the Saints. Thursday's injury report will reveal how much activity Hurts was able to handle.
