The Cardinals released Smith (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Smith spent the entire offseason with Arizona, but he appears to have picked up an undisclosed injury during training camp. The journeyman wideout will be eligible to sign with another club once healthy. He suited up for 11 regular-season games with the Jets last year, hauling in eight of 11 targets for 134 yards in that span.

The Cardinals signed Smith to a reserve/future contract Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Smith has ample NFL experience, recording 34 catches on 67 targets for 426 yards over 36 regular-season games since coming into the league with the Jets in 2019. However, he didn't play at all in 2023, spending the first part of the season on Arizona's practice squad before being placed on the practice-squad IR in late October and reaching an injury settlement a few days later. Smith rejoined Arizona's practice squad in December and, with the reserve/future contract, will get the chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp this summer.

Smith joined Arizona's practice squad in September before ultimately ending up on the injured list and being waived with a settlement. Now healthy, the Boston College product has been brought back into the fold and will provide organizational depth at wideout.

The wide receiver was released with an injury settlement by the Giants in August after he suffered a knee injury, but he will now have a chance to prove himself with the Cardinals. Smith appeared in 11 games with the Jets in 2022, reeling in eight catches on 11 targets for 134 yards.

Reaching an injury settlement allowed Smith to explore his options once healthy and his journey back to an NFL roster stayed in New York as he worked out with the Jets, where he spent his first four years in the league.

Smith reverted to the Giants' injured reserve after clearing waivers and was set to miss the entire 2023 campaign. However, he's now free to sign a new contract once he's able to pass a physical. The severity of Smith's knee issue remains unclear, but it may stem from an injury he suffered at the end of 2022.
