Returning to Vikings
Bullard has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Vikings, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Bullard will remain in Minnesota after posting 44 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, in 2023. Both marks were career highs for the 30-year-old Bullard. He'll likely reprise his role as a rotational piece along the defensive line in 2024 after starting 21 games for the Vikings over the past two seasons and appearing in 29.
Role increases in 2023
Bullard logged 44 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, while also forcing one fumble in 17 games for the Vikings during the 2023 regular season.
The eighth-year pro out of Florida started 14 of the Vikings' 17 games this season, doubling his previous best for most starts in a single year. Despite his increased opportunities in 2023, Bullard continued to struggle at getting after the quarterback, recording just 2.0 sacks and nine pressures in 325 pass rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. The 30-year-old is heading into the offseason as an unrestricted free-agent and he'll likely contribute as a rotational defensive lineman wherever he lands in 2024.
Active Sunday
Bullard (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Lions.
The starting defensive end logged limited practice sessions all week as he dealt with the ankle injury. Bullard has yet to miss a game this season. The eighth-year pro has 39 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, in 2023.
Could play Week 16
Bullard (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Lions.
The 30-year-old defensive end is dealing with an ankle issue that held him to limited practice sessions throughout the week, but he's still got a shot at suiting up Sunday. Bullard has yet to miss a game this season, but if he misses Week 16's affair, Sheldon Day (ankle) could see increased work on the Vikings' defensive line.
Starts at defensive end
Bullard started at defensive end in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay and had four total tackles.
Bullard played on just 29 of the team's 68 defensive snaps despite starting as he wasn't active in the pass rush. He may offer little for fantasy production.
Back with Vikings
Minnesota is re-signing Bullard on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Bullard played a depth role in his 12 appearances with the Vikings last season, recording 23tackles (17 solo). The 29-year-old looks set to handle a similar reserve gig for Minnesota in the 2023 campaign.
Restored to active roster
The Vikings activated Bullard (biceps) from injured reserve Saturday.
Bullard has missed the past four games while on IR with a biceps injury. The 29-year-old was then designated to return to practice Thursday, and he's now set to play again at the earliest possible opportunity heading into Sunday's regular-season finale versus Chicago. With James Lynch still sitting out Week 18 due to a shoulder injury, Bullard should be first in line for additional reps behind starting defensive ends Dalvin Tomlinson and Harrison Phillips.
Back at practice Wednesday
Bullard (biceps) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Bullard has been on injured reserve since Dec. 10 while nursing a biceps injury, but the defensive end was back at practice Wednesday. The 29-year-old has compiled 23 tackles over 11 games this season, and, when healthy, he could step right back into a significant role on the defensive line with James Lynch (shoulder) banged up and uncertain for the postseason.
