Poyer (shin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Poyer didn't practice at all this week ahead of Sunday's AFC East tilt. Marcus Maye will likely draw into the starting lineup next to Jevon Holland on Sunday in place of Poyer.

Looking unlikely for Week 5

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-10-04

Coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that Poyer (shin) will not practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

McDaniel doesn't seem optimistic about Poyer's chances of suiting up for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Patriots, which is unsurprising given that the starting safety has missed three consecutive practices since being forced out of Monday's loss to the Titans. Marcus Maye will likely start at strong safety if Poyer's shin injury indeed rules him out for Sunday's divisional clash.

Misses first practice of week

Poyer (shin) did not participate in practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Poyer injured his shin in the first half of Monday's loss to the Titans and did not return for the second half. He'll have two more chances to see the practice field ahead of Sunday's AFC East showdown against the Patriots. Marcus Maye would be the top candidate to start at strong safety if Poyer were unable to suit up for Sunday's game.

Done for night

Poyer (shin) has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's contest with the Titans, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Poyer suffered a shin injury in the first half of Monday's matchup with Tennessee and he was ultimately unable to return. Marcus Maye will continue to see a greater workload in his absence.

Questionable to return Monday

Poyer (shin) is questionable to return to Monday's game against the Titans.

The starting safety did not record a stat before exiting. The veteran recorded 19 tackles (11 solo) in Miami's first three games of 2024. Marcus Maye is his backup.

Racks up nine tackles in loss

Poyer notched nine tackles (five solo) during Miami's 24-3 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Poyer played 100 percent of defensive snaps during the Dolphins' loss to Seattle. While he hasn't yet picked up a pass breakup or interception through three contest, Poyer's every-down role makes him a viable option in most IDP formats. He'll have an opportunity to make more plays Monday versus the Titans and a mistake-prone Will Levis.

Plays every down Sunday

Poyer recorded six tackles (four solo) during Sunday's 20-17 win versus the Jaguars.

Poyer was nursing a thumb injury during the week leading up to Miami's season debut, but he ultimately had no limitations to start the year. If the snap share remains a constant, he could collect enough tackles over the course of the season to warrant IDP consideration.

Full participant Thursday

Poyer (thumb) was a full participant in Thursday's practice session, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Poyer had been dealing with a fractured right thumb for most of training camp. He was limited to individual drills Wednesday, but he has now progressed to team drills and should be good to go for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Jaguars. Poyer signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March after spending the last seven seasons with the Bills, and the 2013 seventh-round pick is slated to start at strong safety alongside free safety Jevon Holland.

Returning to practice Tuesday

Poyer (thumb) said Monday that he expects to resume practicing Tuesday, C. Isaiah Smalls of The Miami Herald reports.

Poyer revealed Monday that his hand cast is due to a fracture on the bottom of his right thumb, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, but he's now nearly recovered from the injury. The starting safety's final chance to suit up for preseason action will come Friday on the road against Tampa Bay.
