Could play again in 2023
Coach Brandon Staley said there is a possibility Palmer (knee, IR) returns and plays again this season, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Palmer has missed the required four games on injured reserve, but it doesn't sound like he's going to play this week against the Patriots. The Chargers have been rolling with a wideout group of Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston, Jalen Guyton and Derrius Davis in Palmer's absence.

No timetable for return
Coach Brandon Staley said Palmer (knee) does not yet have an expected recovery timetable, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Palmer, who is already on IR, will need to miss at least the Chargers' next three games but could be out longer as he works his way back from a right knee sprain. His absence creates space for rookie first-round pick Quentin Johnston and veteran Jalen Guyton to work behind top wideout Keenan Allen in three-receiver sets.
Return from knee sprain TBD
Coach Brandon Staley relayed Wednesday that Palmer is dealing with a "knee sprain," Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Palmer was placed on IR ahead of Week 9 action, and is thus not eligible to return to action before Week 13. Beyond that, the wideout's timetable for a potential return has yet to be mapped out. "He'll be out for the four weeks for sure and then we'll just see from there," Staley noted. In Palmer's absence, rookie first-rounder Quentin Johnston, as well as Jalen Guyton, will have an opportunity to see added opportunities alongside the Chargers' top pass catcher, Keenan Allen.
Goes on IR
The Chargers placed Palmer (knee) on injured reserve Sunday.
Palmer had already been ruled out in advance of Monday's game against the Jets, but his move to IR ensures that he'll miss at least three additional contests beyond that. The Chargers brought back another receiver in Jalen Guyton (knee) from the PUP list in a corresponding move, but rookie first-round pick Quentin Johnston will be the wideout most likely to benefit from Palmer's absence in terms of getting more snaps and drawing more targets. Palmer will be eligible to return from IR beginning with the Chargers' Week 13 matchup with New England on Dec. 3.
Will not play Monday
Palmer (knee) will not play Monday against the Jets, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Palmer didn't log a practice rep this week, so it's hard to be surprised by this outcome. Rookie Quentin Johnston might have to be a critical member of the passing game as a result, especially in the continued absence of Mike Williams (knee - done for the season). Expect Keenan Allen, Johnston and some combination of Derius Davis and Simi Fehoko to see the majority of the receiver snaps in three-wideout sets.
Still not practicing
Palmer (knee) isn't practicing Friday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Palmer missed practice Thursday, so what the wideout is able to do Saturday (if anything) will be telling with regard to his chances of suiting up Monday night against the Jets. If Palmer ends being limited or out though, rookie first-rounder Quentin Johnston would be slated to see added Week 9 opportunities alongside fellow WR Keenan Allen.
Misses Thursday's practice
Palmer (knee) was officially a non-participant in practice Thursday.
Palmer now has two more chances to return to practice ahead of Monday night's game against the Jets. If the wideout ends up limited or out in Week 9, however, Quentin Johnston would be in line to see added opportunities alongside the Chargers' top pass catcher Keenan Allen.
Not seen at Thursday's practice
Palmer (knee) wasn't spotted at Thursday's practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
The Chargers' upcoming injury report will confirm Palmer's participation level either way, but the wideout did appear to be dealing with a knee issue during a portion of this past Sunday's win over the Bears. Palmer, who finished up the contest, ended up catching three of his four targets for 24 yards versus Chicago while logging 47 of a possible 69 snaps on offense.
Suffers injury, but finishes game
Palmer (knee) temporarily exited Sunday's contest to have his right knee examined, only to return later and finish with three catches on four targets for 24 yards in a 30-13 win over the Bears.
Palmer appeared to have hurt the same knee that he injured in last week's loss to Kansas City. It was a positive sign that he returned and was able to finish the contest, but it is worth noting that two of Palmer's three receptions Sunday occurred before he went down in the first quarter. While no one would have questioned his toughness had he sat out the rest of the contest, it sounds like the receiver was playing at a limited capacity. Another piece of evidence for that theory was No. 3 wideout Quentin Johnston seeing a spike in usage even after his teammate returned to the field. The Chargers' first injury report should help clear up Palmer's injury status (or lack of one) leading into Week 9's matchup against the Jets on Monday Night Football.
