Healthy entering camp

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-07-25

Joseph (knee) is healthy for the start of training camp, Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News reports.

Joseph initially injured his hip back in Week 2 of last season and underwent surgery after the Lions' playoff exit. He missed spring work but is ready to roll for the start of camp. Through two seasons, Joseph has 164 tackles (124 solo), eight interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Should be 100 percent for camp

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-04-19

Joseph (hip) -- who won't take part in practices this spring -- expects to be fully healthy by the start of training camp, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Joseph underwent an offseason procedure to address a hip injury that originally occurred in Week 2 of the 2023 campaign. Though he returned to play after missing two contests, en route to logging 82 tackles and four picks in 15 regular-season outings overall, the issue evidently lingered to the point that it required attention following the postseason. Once he's back to 100 percent, Joseph will reprise his starting free safety role with the Lions.

Out until training camp

Joseph (arm) will not be cleared to practice until training camp, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Joseph suffered the injury during the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers, though the nature and seriousness of the issue had not been previously disclosed. Assuming he returns to health in time to begin the 2024 campaign, Joseph figures to serve as Detroit's starting free safety and is likely to rack up tackles and pass breakups.

Another productive season

Joseph (arm) registered 82 tackles, 11 pass breakups and four interceptions over 15 games in 2023.

Joseph continued to make a name for himself in Detroit after posting a second straight season with four interceptions. This year, the Illinois product also held opposing passers to a 58.5 QBR when being targeted while not allowing a touchdown in his coverage all season, per Pro Football Focus. With Tracy Walker out of the picture and C.J. Gardner-Johnson uncertain to return to Detroit this offseason, Joseph enters the 2024 campaign as Detroit's clear top option at free safety that has the potential for triple-digit tackles and double-digit PBUs if he can stay healthy for a full season.

Exits game with arm injury

Joseph (arm) is questionable to return to Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the 49ers, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.

Joseph sustained the injury in the third quarter. He had two tackles (one solo) before his exit. In Joseph's absence, Ifeatu Melifonwu will likely slot into the free safety spot alongside strong safety starter C.J. Gardner-Johnson, while Will Harris provides depth.

Has monster day at Minnesota

Joseph recorded nine tackles (six solo) and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 win at Minnesota.

Joseph's first pick came towards the end of the first half, and his second came in the middle of the fourth quarter. Both came on deep pass attempts by Nick Mullens. Joseph's nine total tackles were also good for the team lead in Week 16. The Lions will travel to Dallas Saturday.

Snags second pick

Joseph recorded seven tackles (five solo) and one interception in the Lions' victory over the Chargers in Week 10.

Joseph picked off Justin Herbert for his second interception of the season. His seven tackles were also his third highest total of the season. The safety was reliable once again, seeing the field for 61 defensive snaps (90 percent). He will look to stay productive in Week 11 versus the Bears.

Gets first INT of 2023 in win

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-10-31

Joseph had two solo tackles and an interception in Monday's 26-14 win over the Raiders.

His interception off of Jimmy Garoppolo came one play after the Lions turned the ball over in Detroit territory. Joseph's two tackles in the win was by far the lowest for him of the season, but came on a night when Garoppolo completed just 10-of-21 passes for 126 yards.

Leads team in tackles

Joseph registered 10 tackles (nine solo) in Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Ravens.

Joseph left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game to be evaluated for a concussion, though Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reported Monday that the safety did not suffer a brain injury. His 10 tackles against the Ravens was a season-high and he's now up to 31 total tackles for the season, which is tied for third on the team. Joseph and the Lions' defense will look to bounce back in Week 8 against the Raiders on Monday night.
