McGowan (undisclosed) reached an injury settlement with the Commanders on Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
McGowan reverted to Washington's injured reserve after going unclaimed off waivers. He was in danger of missing the entire 2023 campaign before the injury settlement was met. The nature of his injury remains unclear, but he will be able to play again once his health is back up to par.

The Commanders placed McGowan (undisclosed) on injured reserve Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
McGowan's entire 2023 campaign will be spent on IR, barring an injury settlement. He appeared in two games with Washington as a rookie last season, and was now facing uphill competition for a roster spot prior to suffering an undisclosed injury.
The Commanders signed McGowan to a reserve/future contract Monday.
McGowan signed with the Commanders as an undrafted free agent in May and joined the team's practice squad after failing to land a spot on the initial 53-man roster. He saw two elevations during his rookie campaign, but he didn't see a target across 10 offensive snaps. With his new contract, he'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot throughout offseason work.
