Time up in Washington
The Commanders are releasing Kemp on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Kemp will need to search for another depth opportunity, but he boasts enough experience and special-teams ability to latch on elsewhere. The 28-year-old wideout spent most of the last five seasons with the Chiefs, though he also logged one appearance with the Dolphins in 2020.

Finds new opportunity
The Commanders signed Kemp on Friday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
Kemp will now reunite with Washington's newly hired offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, as the two had previously spent five seasons together in Kansas City. The 27-year-old wide receiver has primarily operated as a depth option since entering the league back in 2017, and given the Commanders' current depth at the position, it looks as if he'll once again mainly serve as special-teams contributor in 2023.
Reverts after winning Super Bowl
Kemp reverted to Kansas City's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Kemp played 17 special teams snaps in Sunday's 38-35 Super Bowl win over the Eagles, but he didn't accrue any meaningful statistics. The 27-year-old wide receiver will be a free agent this offseason.
Bumped up from practice squad
Kemp was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Kemp was elevated from the practice squad for the sixth time this season and the third week in a row. After being a healthy scratch in the divisional round, the 27-year-old caught his only target for 13 yards in the AFC Championship Game win over the Bengals. Kemp should once again anticipate a small role on offense and should expect most of his playing time to come on special teams.
Returns to practice squad
Kemp reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Kemp was elevated for the fifth time this season and the second consecutive game ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game. He primarily was relegated to a role on special teams over his three appearances in the regular season, and he was ruled a healthy scratch for the divisional-round win over Jacksonville. However, with Justin Watson (illness) inactive, the 27-year-old Kemp had to fill in after Chiefs wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) all exited with injuries versus Cincinnati. As a result, Kemp played a season-high 22 offensive snaps, and he also hauled in his first target of the season for a 13-yard gain late in the fourth quarter. With the bulk of Kansas City's wide receiver corps now dealing with injuries, the 6-foot-4 pass catcher could be asked to step up on the biggest stage again during the Super Bowl versus Philadelphia on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Up to active roster
Kemp was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.
This marks the fifth time Kemp will join the active roster, but the tall target has yet to see a target this season. Expect Kemp to see little opportunities the rest of the postseason, particularly with Mecole Hardman (pelvis) possibly back in the fold.
Shifts back to practice squad
Kemp reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Kemp was elevated for the fourth time this season ahead of Saturday's divisional-round victory versus Jacksonville. However, the 6-foot-4 wideout ultimately was ruled a healthy scratch, marking his first time being deemed inactive this season. Kemp could be a candidate to be elevated once again if wideout Mecole Harman (pelvis) remains out during Sunday's AFC Championship Game against Cincinnati.
Inactive Saturday
Kemp (coach's decision) is listed as inactive for Saturday's AFC divisional-round game against the Jaguars.
Kemp was elevated from the Chiefs' practice squad to their active roster earlier in the week, but he will ultimately not be active. Thus, he will watch Saturday's game from the sideline.
Elevated to active roster again
The Chiefs elevated Kemp from their practice squad Friday for Saturday's divisional-round matchup against the Jaguars, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Kemp drew three regular-season elevations, but he failed to garner a target across 10 offensive snaps and played primarily on special teams (62 snaps). Kansas City will be without Mecole Hardman (pelvis), but Kemp is still unlikely to garner a significant offensive role.
