Maye (shoulder) signed a contract with the Dolphins on Monday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

After spending five years in New York with the Jets, Maye suited up for 12 games with the Saints over the previous two seasons. His relatively low game total was due to the fact that he dealt with a lingering shoulder, but his addition to Miami's roster indicates his health is back up to par. The veteran free safety will look to make an impression going forward and earn a depth role in the Fins' secondary.

Cut loose by Saints

RotoWire Logo Published: 2024-02-29

The Saints intend to release Maye (shoulder) at the start of the new league year, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Maye has struggled with injuries for the last three seasons -- two of which came with New Orleans -- during which he's combined to play in only 23 games. The move could save the Saints up to $7.2 million in cap space. Meanwhile, Maye will likely have to settle for a short-term deal in the hopes of proving he can stay on the field.

Misses final six games

Maye (shoulder) logged 37 tackles, including one sack, and two interceptions across seven appearances during the 2023 campaign.

Maye ended the season on IR with a shoulder injury after being hampered by issues throughout the campaign. As a result, the 30-year-old played seven or fewer games for the third time in the last six seasons. Maye is entering the final year of his three-year, $22.5 million deal with New Orleans, which could make him a cap casualty ahead of the 2024 regular season.

Sent to injured reserve

The Saints placed Maye (shoulder) on injured reserve Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

The veteran safety missed last week's game with the injury and will now be sidelined at least four additional contests. Maye also previously missed four games earlier in the year with a hamstring issue and three-game suspension. Jordan Howden stepped in as the starting safety next to Tyrann Mathieu last Sunday.

Out for Sunday vs. Lions

Maye (shoulder) is listed as out for Sunday's game versus the Lions, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Maye did not practice at all during the week, so it's not a big surprise that he'll be sidelined for his fifth game this season in Week 13. Rookie fifth-rounder Jordan Howden figures to start at safety in his place Sunday.

Sits out practice

Maye (shoulder) missed Wednesday's practice, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Maye's status for Sunday's matchup versus the Lions is now up in the air after he popped up on the injury report Wednesday. Jordan Howden will likely start at safety if Maye is unable to suit up Sunday.

Gets second interception in return

Maye had three solo tackles and an interception in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Bears.

Maye picked off Tyson Bagent early in the fourth quarter on a pass intended for Darnell Mooney that put the Saints in Bears' territory. Maye was active for Week 8 against the Colts but didn't up playing while dealing with an illness and hamstring injury. He played every single defensive snap Sunday and he's now up to 23 tackles (16 solo) and two interceptions in five games this season.

Set to play Sunday

Maye (illness, hamstring) is active for Sunday's contest against the Colts, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.

Maye did not participate in Friday's practice due to an illness, but he's healthy enough to go for Sunday's game alongside starting free safety Tyrann Mathieu (foot).

Questionable for Week 8

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-10-27

Maye (illness, hamstring) is officially questionable to play against Indianapolis on Sunday.

Maye began the week with a pair of limited practice sessions before sitting out entirely Friday. Saints head coach Dennis Allen clarified that the safety's absence was due to an illness, giving him a chance to suit up Sunday versus the Colts, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. If Maye does need to sit out, Jordan Howden would likely see more snaps.
