Minimal impact in win
Boone did not receive a carry in four offensive snaps and returned one kickoff for 14 yards in Sunday's 37-17 win over the Jaguars in Week 3.
Boone returned to the active roster in Week 3 while Dare Ogunbowale was a healthy scratch. The two have alternated as the third back through the first three weeks. Boone was used as a receiving back in Week 1, when he had 22 snaps on offense.

Healthy scratch Sunday
Boone (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts.
Boone handled a key role as a pass-catching back in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, recording three receptions for 18 yards on four targets across his 22 offensive snaps. Even though Houston's backfield configuration hasn't changed since Week 1, Boone will be in street clothes for Week 2, likely because the Texans are prioritizing extra depth along the injury-depleted offensive line. With Boone sidelined, Devin Singletary could see an expanded role behind starting running back Dameon Pierce.
Used as receiving back
Boone caught three of four targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 25-9 loss to the Ravens in Week 1.
Boone was on the field for more snaps (24) than No. 2 back Devin Singletary (16), but that had more to do with the Texans playing catchup and using passing packages. Houston threw the ball 66 percent of the time compared to 34 percent rushing. That may continue to be the case for the rebuilding Texans, which could lead to more targets for Boone. He should blow away the career-best 15 targets he had in nine games with Denver last season.
Back with Houston
The Texans re-signed Boone on Thursday.
Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Boone -- who had been temporarily let go Wednesday -- quickly re-joined the team under the same two-year, $3.1 million contract he inked as a free agent this offseason. Now that he's back in the mix, Boone profiles as Houston's No. 3 running back behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary.
Cut by Houston
The Texans released Boone on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The Texans might try to keep Boone -- either on the active roster or practice squad -- once they're done sorting through things from cutdown day. He mostly plays special teams and was previously set to be the team's No. 3 RB behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary.
Active against Pats
Boone carried four times for 25 yards and caught one pass for seven yards in last week's preseason opener against the Patriots, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports. "He's an explosive runner," Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans said. "He has dynamic speed. He showed a little glimpse of that in the game, and he has continued to move forward."
Boone, a former track-and-field athlete in high school, showed a sprinter's speed and acceleration against New England. The 27-year-old running back solidified his chances of a roster spot behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary. Boone had 102 yards on 24 carries and caught nine of 15 targets for 96 yards in 120 offensive snaps for the Broncos in 2022.
Joining Houston
Boone agreed to a contract with the Texans on Monday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
Boone, who logged 24 carries for 102 yards and nine catches for 96 yards on 15 targets in nine games with the Broncos in 2022, finished up the season on IR, but he now should be past the ankle issue that landed him there. With the Texans, the 27-year-old is in line to work as a backup to 2022 fourth-rounder Dameon Pierce (ankle).
