White (ribs) agreed to terms with the Dolphins on a two-year contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

White -- who should be past a rib issue that slowed him late last season -- gives the Dolphins an experienced backup behind Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) with Teddy Bridgewater a free agent. White, who turns 28 later this month, made seven starts for the Jets over the last two seasons, completing 62.2 percent of his passes at 7.0 yards per attempt with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

White (ribs) is inactive for Sunday's season finale against Miami, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

White aggravated his rib injury -- which reportedly entails five fractures -- in an ugly Week 17 performance at Seattle. Joe Flacco will start the season finale, while White can focus on his recovery as he prepares to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason (unless he re-signs with the Jets first). Zach Wilson will be the team's backup QB in the season finale against Miami.

Not in line to start Sunday

The Jets officially list White (ribs) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, but head coach Robert Saleh previously said Friday that the quarterback won't play.

Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Joe Flacco is in line to start the Jets' season finale, with Zach Wilson slated to serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback. After practicing fully Wednesday, White was limited in practice on Thursday, and now he's in line to sit out after aggravating his rib injury last Sunday against the Seahawks. White revealed Friday that he's been dealing with five fractured ribs since initially suffering the injury Week 14 in Buffalo.

Dealing with five fractured ribs

White was noticeably hampered when he tried to play through the injury in the Week 17 loss to Seattle, even after sitting out the Jets' previous two games. The 27-year-old quarterback will be a free agent at the end of the season, and it's possible the Jets view White as a candidate for the starting job in 2023. He finishes the 2022 season with 1,192 passing yards and a 3:4 TD:INT across four starts.

Ruled out for Week 18

White was initially set to make his second consecutive start to close out the season, but with the team having been eliminated from postseason contention with a Week 17 loss to the Seahawks, the Jets won't take any chances with the banged-up signal-caller in the finale. Joe Flacco is now in line to start Sunday with Zach Wilson dressing as his top backup, per Costello. White, who is still recovering from four broken ribs suffered in the Jets' Week 14 loss to the Bills, will finish the 2022 season with a 58.9 percent completion rate for 1,192 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions to go with nine rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground over his four appearances.

Limited practice Thursday

White's status thus is worth monitoring ahead of this weekend's game against the Dolphins, but unless the QB returns to a full practice Friday, he figures to carry an injury designation into the Jets' season finale. Earlier this week, coach Robert Saleh acknowledged that White was dealing with some rib soreness after Week 17 action but added that the signal-caller should be ready for Sunday's contest.

Remains starter

Though he's still tending to a fractured rib, White will begin Week 18 prep Wednesday as a full participant and is on tap for his second straight start, despite the fact that the 7-9 Jets have been eliminated from playoff contention. After sitting out Weeks 15 and 16 due to the rib issue, White returned to the lineup for this past Sunday's 23-6 loss to the Seahawks and struggled to move the offense, completing just 23 of 46 pass attempts for 200 yards and two interceptions while also losing a fumble. Despite White's poor showing, the Jets will stick with him rather than turning the offense back over to Zach Wilson, whom Saleh confirmed will be a healthy inactive for the season finale. Joe Flacco will dress as White's backup.

White completed 23 of 46 passes for 240 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble in Sunday's 23-6 loss to the Seahawks.

Making his first start since Week 14, White didn't look fully recovered from his rib injury and made a number of awkward throws that were well off the mark, although a Seattle pass rush that sacked him four times was also a factor. With the Jets now eliminated from playoff contention and White having posted a 0:4 TD:INT over his last three games, it's not clear who coach Robert Saleh will name his starting quarterback for a Week 18 trip to Miami.

Joe Flacco will back White up in Seattle, as Zach Wilson has been benched for the second time this season.
