The Seahawks are slated to sign Walker to a contract Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Walker gives Seattle a necessary third quarterback on the depth chart in advance of training camp. He'll now have an opportunity to compete for the No. 3 job behind Geno Smith and Sam Howell. Walker is among the league's more experienced depth options, as he suited up for 21 regular-season games from 2020-23.

Active but doesn't play in loss

Walker was active but did not play in Saturday's 45-14 wild-card playoff loss to the Texans.

Walker had a brief run as the Browns' primary quarterback earlier this season but was relieved of those duties after throwing five interceptions (one touchdown) in three starts. He served as the primary backup to Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) until the team resurrected Joe Flacco for the final stretch of the season. He enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

Back with Browns

Cleveland signed Walker on Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, the Browns placed Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) on their injured reserve list Tuesday. Per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, Walker is now set to back up Joe Flacco on Thursday versus the Jets. Over six games with Cleveland earlier this season, Walker posted a mediocre 6.1 yards per pass attempt and threw just one touchdown to five interceptions.

Returns to Cleveland

Walker signed with the Browns' practice squad Monday, Brad Stainbrook of reports.

Walker was the odd man out in Cleveland's quarterback room when Joe Flacco was brought aboard and ended up being waived Saturday. He'll now return to the organization and help the team's organizational depth at the position.

Cut by Cleveland

The Browns waived Walker on Saturday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.

Walker was behind both Joe Flacco and Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Cleveland's depth chart, and he hadn't started a game in almost six weeks. The 28-year-old quarterback appeared in six games for the Browns this season, throwing for 674 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.

Behind Flacco on depth chart

Coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Walker has been surpassed by Joe Flacco on Cleveland's quarterback depth chart, Jake Trotter of reports.

Walker struggled in relief in Week 12 against the Broncos after Dorian Thompson-Robinson left the 29-12 loss due to a concussion. Thompson-Robinson has subsequently been placed in the NFL's concussion protocol, but even if Thompson-Robinson hasn't recovered in time to play Sunday against the Rams, Flacco would get the start, with Walker backing up the veteran. Flacco will presumably be elevated from the practice squad prior to Sunday, regardless of Thompson-Robinson's status.

Needed in relief Sunday

Walker replaced Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) in the third quarter of Sunday's 29-12 loss to the Broncos, completing six of 13 passes for 56 yards. He also committed two fumbles, losing one, and was sacked in the end zone for a safety.

It was a poor day overall for Cleveland quarterbacks, as the duo of Thompson-Robinson and Walker combined for a 47.6 percent completion rate, a 4.5 YPA and just 190 total passing yards. The 28-year-old former Panther has seen significant action in four games this season, managing only one TD pass while committing seven turnovers, but if Thompson-Robinson isn't able to clear the league's concussion protocol by next Sunday, Walker will be the Browns' only option under center in Week 13 against the Rams.

Not starting this week

RotoWire Logo Published: 2023-11-15

Walker will not start Sunday's game against Pittsburgh, with the Browns instead turning to Dorian Thompson-Robinson after Deshaun Watson (shoulder) was ruled out for the season, Jake Trotter of reports.

Thompson-Robinson got the first start when Watson missed time earlier this season, but the Browns quickly turned to Walker after the rookie tossed three interceptions in a 28-3 loss to the Ravens in Week 4. The veteran wasn't much better in the following weeks, continuing the trend of frequent interceptions (five in three starts) even as the Browns won two of his three outings. Walker offers mobility and arm strength but not much else, having thrown six TD passes and 16 picks on 326 career attempts (54.9 percent completions, 6.4 YPA). It's nonetheless possible he makes more starts before the end of the year, given that Thompson-Robinson looked unready for the NFL last time we saw him.

Could give way to Thompson-Robinson

In the wake of Deshaun Watson's season-ending shoulder injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer indicates that the Browns may turn to Dorian Thompson-Robinson rather than Walker to handle QB duties Sunday against the Steelers.

We'll look for added context regarding the Browns' signal-caller situation later Wednesday, but it appears as though Walker, who had been operating as Watson's backup, may give way to Thompson-Robinson this weekend. Meanwhile, Jake Trotter of ESPN relays that the Cleveland is expected to look into signing another QB in the coming days to provide the team with a third option at the position.
