Let go by Carolina
The Panthers waived Yeast from the active roster Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Yeast was signed to the Panthers' 53-man roster from the practice squad Sept. 24 after being let go by the Rams on Sept. 14. He played just seven snaps on special teams in Week 4 against the Bengals and was a healthy scratch for Week 5 against the Bears. Assuming he clear waivers, Yeast could stick around and return to the Panthers' practice squad or explore his options elsewhere.

Joins active roster
Yeast was signed to the 53-man roster from the Panthers' practice squad Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Yeast's move to the active roster coincides with Jordan Fuller (hamstring) being placed on IR. The former will now take on a depth role in Carolina's secondary, with Nick Scott expected to take over the starting duties at strong safety.
Wavied by Rams
The Rams waived Yeast on Saturday.
Despite starting in nine regular-season games for the Rams last season, Yeast played just one defensive snap in Week 1 against the Lions. Should he clear waivers, the 2022 seventh-round pick will look to join a team in need of depth in the secondary.
May remain without starting role
Yeast has seen work at safety and slot corner during training camp, but isn't the favorite to land either role, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Yeast opened the 2023 campaign as a starter at safety for the Rams but failed to keep the role after the team's Week 10 bye. With Jordan Fuller now in Carolina, he was expected to have a chance to earn that role again, but the emergence of Quentin Lake and the signing of Kamren Curl will likely have him in a backup role there, while Cobie Durant is expected to earn slot duties.
Loses starting role mid-season
Yeast recorded 61 tackles (37 solo) and five passes defended during the 2023 regular season over 17 games played.
Yeast was relegated mostly to special teams in 2022, but had a strong training camp and earned a role as a starting safety to begin 2023. Despite beginning the year as a starter, Yeast reverted to a backup behind Jordan Fuller and Quentin Lake after the bye week, failing to eclipse a 45 percent snap share in all but two games the rest of the way. Fuller is an unrestricted free agent after the season, so Yeast, who still has two years left on his rookie deal, may get another chance to earn a role as a starter if Fuller doesn't return.
Will play Sunday
Yeast (knee) is active Sunday against the 49ers.
Yeast didn't show up on the injury report until Friday after logging a limited practice. However, the second-year pro is good to go and should get the start at free safety against San Francisco.
Considered questionable
Yeast is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers due to a knee injury, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports.
Yeast popped up on the injury report after practicing in limited fashion Friday. His knee issue presumably occurred at practice at some point during the week. John Johnson would likely be in line to fill in at free safety if he is ultimately unable to go.
Back at minicamp
Yeast (chest) was spotted participating in Los Angeles' minicamp Tuesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Yeast suffered a pulmonary contusion to his chest on January 8 during the Rams' season finale, but he has since had the offseason to move past the issue. The 2022 seventh-round pick was working alongside fellow safeties Jordan Fuller and Quentin Lake throughout minicamp. In his rookie campaign, Yeast tallied 20 tackles in 15 appearances. The Kansas State product will compete with Lake for the second starting safety position alongside Fuller in L.A. ahead of this upcoming season.
OK after hospitalization
Yeast (chest) went to the hospital for a pulmonary contusion after Sunday's game against the Seahawks, but he is in stable condition and expected to be okay, Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register reports.
Yeast exited in the first half due to a chest injury. The rookie safety was making his first NFL start in the season finale. He will have plenty of time to recover over the offseason.
